A wasted effort

I typed a nearly complete update and because of the poor connection, I lost the whole thing. I won't even try to recreate it.

I have decided on the 15" MacBook Pro. While I would like the 17" screen it costs several hundred dollars more, and I think the smaller one will be much better for the RV and for portability. Now I just have to get Mike to order it (at his discount) and hopefully I will get used to it quickly. I haven't decided for sure whether to order the MS Office package or go with the Apple iWork (I think that's what it is called). I've never really cared one way or another for Word, but it's familiar to me and I can use both Word and Excel. I think it is about $80 more than iWork, so that may be the deciding factor. I don't do anything fancy with it but use it more as a temporary storage for text I plan to do something else with.

I decided not to go to the fire house Open House today as they didn't get started until about 11:30 this morning. It takes at least an hour to get there, and I was worried about getting back to walk Lady this afternoon. I drove over to Camper's Barn, only a few miles from here, to check on vent covers for over my shower. They told me that the installation would only take me about 1/2 hour - that means I should allow a full hour, or maybe two. I am not even sure I can do it myself, and I HATE to get up on that roof!

I've been cleaning the carpet a small section at a time, by hand, and it looks a lot better. I bought a heavier duty vacuum cleaner than the one I had, and that makes a big difference - at least it gets up more of the dog hair. Life would be so simple without a dog.

  1. Congratulations on your decision to buy a Mac. I don't think you will ever regret it. I also bought one and am waiting on it now. Hopefully Monday will be my day. I chose iWorks, too, because it seems sense to buy a program designed for the machine; it already comes with powerful tools loaded on it. I also use free Google documents that has word and excel like programs.

You will really enjoy the iPhoto program that comes with your new machine. Get ready for great computing with you new Mac.

  2. That's what we decided when our dog died. It is so much easier not to have to worry about getting back to let the dog out!

Glad you decided on a Mac!

  3. Congratulations Gypsy on making a decision to buy a new computer. The most important thing is not whether it's a Mac or a PC as they are both great - but, rather that you are happy with the choice. You seem to be so that's good. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it after you spend a few days getting familiar with it.

  4. Hey Gypsy.. Just thinking about your lost update. Have you thought of trying Live Writer from MSN? It's a downloaded free program and you can work on blogs without being connected to the net. It saves right in your computer. Once you get a signal, you hit PUBLISH... if something goofs up on the connection, you just hit PUBLISH again! Easy Peasy! It hooks right up to Blogger and works just fine. It's easier to place photos too, and once you place them, you can crop or edit them or move them around better than using the Blogger program.

  5. Gypsy - you'll love your Mac book! We thought we'd buy Office for Mac, but we've been using iWorks or iLife or whatever they call it and it's great! Congrats!

  7. I'm not sure that Live Writer will work with a Mac. It might be best to wait until you get it and see, before committing a lot of time to learning it.
