Writing/Reading blogs

It seems like there has been a change, or drop off, in the blogging world.   Maybe it's just my circle, but I notice that bloggers I read are no longer posting as often and it just seems as if a lot of folks have gone away.   It seems to me there has been a world change and it's evident in the news and just what is happening all around us.  Maybe it's just the weather.

Which brings up a topic I've been looking into lately:  global warming vs. mini ice age?   We've long been conditioned to think that we are in a period of global warming, and that may be true in some places, but I've been reading more and more that we are beginning a mini ice age and will soon be able to see dramatic effects in the food shortages that are predicted (and already happening in Europe).  I read that some food stores in Europe are rationing the vegetables you can buy.  I can't verify that, but it's a scary thought.  The long-term forecast for California is drought.

I'd be interested to know the thoughts of my blog readers, and if you think there is a change coming, how do you plan to deal with it.  If I had a regular house I think I would start a large garden, or maybe a greenhouse.  As it is there isn't much I can do where I currently live - very little privacy and virtually no place to start a little garden plot.

Jeannie is driving me to a service for my late nephew this weekend, so I got the gas tank filled at Costco at $2.559/gallon.    Now to figure out what to wear as I have nothing but ultra casual clothes, except of course, the 3 long dresses I recently hemmed.  I'm thinking of wearing the blue one, but don't know if it is suitable for a chapel service unless I wear a lightweight sweater over it while indoors.  And then there is the problem of footwear.  The only shoes I have that I am fairly steady in are my gym shoes, and that would really be a clash with my long blue dress!   I've reached the stage of my life where I usually don't worry about such things, but considering the circumstances I should probably worry a little.

I can't hear myself think because a helicopter is circling above, so I'll stop here.  I don't like those things at all.  There is entirely too much noise pollution these days.

  1. While I can only speak for myself I have not been posting as often because I tend to go away during the NBA playoffs and then the Finals. Another factor is this darn slow DISH internet which drives me batty. I ran out of daytime data within a week.

While I have read some articles on climate change I must admit not enough to have an informed opinion. Things would have to get real bad for me to even consider starting a garden.

    1. I know you are still out there Ms. B, and i'm aware of your problems with the internet. I also am pretty much like you when it comes to a garden - I don't know how long I'd keep up with it!

  2. I just thought the lack of blogs to read was because it was one of those "crazy, hazy, lazy days of summer" to quote the old song.

We garden and right now are up to our elbows in some things. The locals bring us even more. We eat all we can and share all the rest.

Hope you find a stylish comfort shoe. If not, you might start a fashion trend. It seems anything goes these days anyway. I'm amazed at the stuff they are parading around in at the Paris fashion shows.

    1. I would love to garden but experience years ago convinced me I'm a better cook than a gardener!

I have cleared it with my sister-in-law that casual is fine so I just may wear my Birkenstocks. My nephew didn't own a regular pair of shoes - always wore sandals - so I'm sure he will understand and completely approve!

  3. I'm just lazy. As hot as it has been I am not doing much to write about.

    1. I know exactly what you are talking about. It is so difficult to come up with something to write about other than the weather.

  4. I've talked about what has caused my blog post slow down on the blog so I know you know why. For years we had a HUGE garden and provided 80% of our own food - canning, drying, freezing - for the entire year. We bought coffee, sugar and flour mostly. Even bartered for local milk. Very safe in terms of food shortages but A LOT LOT LOT of work and even more if you saved your own seed so you didn't end up with GMO seeds like monsanto wants you too. That said, if the climate changes and you can't grow things - too hot, too cold, too little water - there isn't much any of us can do about it. Probably won't happen in the next 20 years to us but our grandchildren are another story. All MHO and worth what you paid for it.

    1. I'd like to talk to one of the farmers at the Saturday market and get their thoughts on what is happening with climate and food production.

  5. It has been hot so less adventures to report. But the heat did get me staying inside near my paints so tonights blog shows what heat can cause a foolish old man to paint. Have fun.

    1. I look forward to seeing what you are doing. I think I should get back to painting soon.

  6. I think a lot of people are traveling or just have nothing much to say. I'm one of them so I have just put out a few blogs here and there and most of my readers are traveling out just not reading. Seems to come in spirts.

    1. There probably isn't much for anyoen to say except those who are traveling somewhere.

  7. I admire you Sherry. We haven't done a fraction of that. It sounds like you know the whole story about our food. This is the main reason we grow a few of our own veggies. The "weather" makes it difficult.

    1. I have been so fortunate to live close to the Saturday farmer's market - I get fresh organic food at a decent price and get to know some of the growers. I don't know what the future holds for the growers though.

  8. The last few times I worried about what to wear to a wedding or a funeral I was wasting my time. There were people dressed like they were going to Walmart.

    1. That's funny. I think you are right, and the nephew I'm going to honor was one of the most casual dressers I know, so I'm sure he wouldn't care what I will be wearing. I'm doing a reading at the service - the psalm "The Lord is my Shepherd", so with eyes on me I don't want to look too shabby. I think everyone will be dressed comfortably though. The trouble is I am somewhat "old school" the way I was raised, and can't get past that upbringing.

    2. I guess I'm "old school" too. I think about what my aunts would say about what I have on. I don't think either one of them ever even had a pair of jeans. I know we had quite a few discussions about what I had on when I was a teenager. I knew if I wanted to go where they were going I better shape up. lol

  9. I think everyone is just going to be happy you are attending. Please give my love to all you meet there.

Regarding global warming, records are regularly showing record setting high temperatures in much higher frequency than record lows. Glaciers from only about 1970 pictures to present satellite images show dramatic retreats. Melting of permafrost tundra is affecting areas which used to remain frozen throughout the year. Antarctica is greening up so the penguins are also losing habitat. Scientific, accessible data shows conclusively that global warming is a sad and scary truth. 😞

    1. Hi Jen, thanks for your comments. I guess it depends on your news sources. You are never going to get the real truth from mainstream media or governments. Many scientists are studying this however, and come up with a much different picture. I choose to believe the accredited scientists over the media or governments. Here is a short video of about 5.5 min. wherein some interesting statistics are given. It's worth taking a look at, in my opinion, just to get a more balanced picture of the earth's cycles. We are due for a mini ice age when you look at the cycles throughout history.

  10. I think a lot of us have blog burn out. I certainly don't blog anymore if we aren't traveling. Just can't blog about daily life. And I'm reading a lot of blogs but not commenting very often. Personally, I think I'm just getting old and lazy. lol I'm not sure what to say about ice age or global warming. I do know that the weather is not predictable like it used to be and it is really getting hot in areas. But Montana had a major winter with SNOW this last year. I do believe that water shortage and food shortages are going to happen and people need to be prepared somehow. But a garden isn't in my future.

    1. I'm too old to start gardening, when I never really was very good at it even in my younger years.

I don't know what to think about weather patterns or what will happen when, but history shows that the earth gets cooler in cycles, some every 100 or 200 years, and we may be due for one of those. It is because the sun goes through a cooling period and has nothing to do with man-made climate change.
