Walmart

Every time I walk into a Walmart I realize why I don't like it.  This morning I went to visit the Optical Department to see about getting a new left lens for my eyeglasses.  My eye surgeon recommended it on my last visit but New York took precedence, so I decided today was the day.

No problem in the Optical Department, but then I wanted to get a couple of small items, like a nail clipper, etc.  I pulled out a cart but the wheels wouldn't roll.  Would you believe the next three carts had the same problem.  Finally I found one that rolled, but as I started down the aisle I heard a BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM!   I left that cart pretty quick and figured I could carry what little I was going to buy there.  I have to go back for my new lens on the 20th, but I won't shop, that's for sure.

I went to the UCD Med Clinic in my area to see about my sore throat and whatever else is wrong with my head.  I walked in but they didn't have an appointment available until 4pm this afternoon.  That's fine with me.  I also picked up the bio's of several doctors to choose one I'd like to have for my doctor.  The one I've been seeing has resigned (I heard it through the grapevine).   I think she might have cancer and I feel really bad for her - she's young and has kids at home.  I just hope she can find remission.  I would like to find a doctor closer to my home and with free parking.

Thanks to Sandra for reminding me that a salt water gargle will help my sore throat.  It actually has given me some relief.  My throat has never been the same since the two ERCP procedures that were done on me last winter, before gall bladder surgery.  Mostly I get a tickling sensation, but now I have a sore throat along with other allergy symptoms.  I decided it's time to take action before I find myself in the hospital again, as I have the past two years.

Have you ever found a recipe that sounded so good you just had to try it?  I've been searching for recipes that are easy to make, require just a few ingredients, and would make decent leftovers.  I found a chicken broccoli casserole recipe that only required a few other ingredients and had it for supper last night.  I thought it was pretty awful, but then I heated some of it for my lunch today.  I ate it even though it has gone from awful to disgusting, and the rest of it will end up being thrown out.  I absolutely HATE to waste food, but this is going to be an exception!  I need something sweet now to get rid of the taste of the terrible casserole!

  1. Sorry to read about your throat! and bad buggy experience! AND your awful to disgusting casserole … This is from a ‘pal’ I don’t cook and this is supposed to be foolproof and easy ~ I like everything in this … haven’t tried it yet … I saved her post … seems easy and tasty…

That is precisely what I did the other day. I prepared onions, chicken, spices, carrots,
parsnips, turnip, sweet potato, kale, peas and topped it all off with
    buttercup squash.

Brought it all to a boil, then turned down to simmer for a half hour,
then turned off the burner and let it sit.

Since some veggies require less time to cook I let the first three veggies
cook for about 5 minutes, then added the remaining ones.

The nice thing was that the sweet potato cooks up fast and 'dissolves'
into the stew to thicken it up.
It was very good and lasted for a few days

  2. I would probably like it. My wife says I would eat anything. I especially love casseroles. If its eatable, I will probably eat it. The only two things that I dislike are liquorish and coconut.

  3. One of my major gripes about Walmart is they cannot maintain a decent cart. I have never had one that worked correctly.

  4. Vada in Tx.I was jealous of your trip but the travel hangover and now the allergies not so much...I have had good luck using honey in hot tea for my sore throats.

  5. The shopping carts with broken or crazy wheels are a pet peeve of mine too. Why don't they take these things out of service? I refuse to fight one of these things and will keep changing carts until I find a good one.

I had a friend that said if you had to put more than a couple of food items together something in there wasn't good. lol I can't seem to leave a recipe alone so some things I make don't turn out like I want. My husband just says it's another different dish.

  6. Life is way too short to eat anything that tastes awful and especially a second time. Put it in the compost bin. I find that same thing with the carts in Walmart and they now don't have baskets you can carry. I guess they don't want you to only buy a few things. I go to K-Mart when I can instead. Hope they can help you with your throat.

  7. hot peppermint tea or any tea, honey and lemmon. Honey is also good for allergies.
I am at the end of my rope with Walmart too. I don't like Kmart and there isn't one around my area anymore. Target has that nasty restock fee so I don't shop there anymore either. Oh what is a Girl today.
    feel better soon
