Back to his old self!

I just got back from walking Rocky and I can say he seems to be fully recovered from the recent injections.  The rain has stopped but the wind is blowing in gusts, and on our walk he seemed to be chasing the wind!  He's a sight to see.

In his exhuberance he just jumped over the computer on my lap and his claws tore the skin on my arm.  It's going to take a long time to heal as he got me in two places.  I avoid clipping his nails (Joe usually does it but he hasn't been feeling well the past few days).   I may just have to try it.  Rocky holds still very well, something a lot of dogs don't like to do or have anyone touch their paws.

I really enjoyed hearing the rain last night.  I haven't heard how much fell overall, but I think we got a good soaking.  Now all the little flowers and buds have fallen off the crepe myrtle trees  and are clumped in  driveways, on the street, and everywhere you look.  I hate that tree even though it's beautiful when flowering, but would prefer it in a large yard away from the house.  It's such a nuisance in a mobile home park and there are a lot of them.  I believe they belong to the park so I  don't think I could cut it down and replace it.  The roots have cracked the small slab of concrete in the front, and is probably causing the house to need re-leveling.

This has been a beautiful day except that my arm hurts so bad where Rocky tore the skin.  I put a large band-aid on it immediately, but have no idea how to stop the pain in it.  I don't have anything for pain except baby aspirin, and that is the main reason why my skin is so thin and tears easily to begin with - that daily baby aspirin.  How I hate it!

Another weekend is nearly upon us and I don't have a date!   Haha, I remember when that was a huge disappointment!

  1. When I have burns or scrapes/cuts I use Manuka honey. It’s messy but it takes most of the pain away and usually none or hardly any scars. I never tried regular honey but maybe that works too.

    1. I never have honey on hand because I can't stand the taste of the stuff, but I've heard it also has great medicinal properties. I should look into it because the pain in my arm is really bothering me now. I am down to just a few bandaids, and one large enough to cover both wounds is going to tear my skin up when I remove it!

  2. I'm sorry Rocky tore into your skin. I buy non-stick band aids for mother as she has very thin skin as yourself. Maybe treat yourself to a nice cold beer for the pain?

    1. Oh, I've had a nice cold beer, and might just allow myself another one for the continued pain. I look for non-stick but I haven't found one yet that comes off without pain. I took the original bandaid off (a huge one) and put a lot of antibiotic stuff on it, and then another band aid. I just dread taking this one off.

  3. Have you ever tried neosporin with pain relief. It's what we use and it really helps the pain. Jim's skin is like yours.

    1. I have neosporin, but happened to use a different kind of ointment that contains bacitracin. The pain has eased, so maybe the ointment really helps. I dread having to change the bandaid - It's one of those big ones that can cover both wounds, and it's going to hurt when I pull it loose.

  4. My father had very thin papery skin in later years but he did not take aspirin. Maybe it's just due to aging? Anyway, they make special sleeves to protect fragile skin. Maybe something like that might help around the puppy. I don't have any personal knowledge of particular ones to try, but an example I see on Amazon is "Prevent Products, Inc. - GeriGlove® Elderly Skin Protector, Thin Skin Tear & Bruise Protective Arm Sleeve - Made In USA". Perhaps a medical supply store in your area carries something you can go and try on.

    1. Interesting, because I talked to another dog walker this evening when I had Rocky out, and she mentioned that there are special sleeves to protect skin. I will look for something like this because it is really making my arms a mass of red ugly bruises. Thank you for the suggestion.

  5. Instead of a bandaid you could wrap gauze around your arm several times then use "medical" type paper tape hold down the gauze.

    1. Good idea. I have to go to the store today so will add gauze to my list. I cancelled the delivery I had scheduled for today because they can't deliver my prescription as well, so I might as well go and enjoy shopping, if I can find something to do with Rocky while I'm gone.

  6. Arrowhead Gramma said what I was thinking also. Those sleeves might be a good idea to keep you from getting further scratches.

    1. I know I need to do something, but first I have to get his nails trimmed. I should try to do it myself before he does any more damage.

  7. Don't get mad at the puppy, he didn't mean to hurt you.

    1. He is so innocent he has no idea he hurt me!

  8. Yes, I bought some of those sleeves years ago when my husband first started having problems with thin skin. He has never taken aspirin.
The sleeves come in several colors. They were what I considered very expensive, but he did use them often when he was piddling around in his workshop. They were durable. He may still have them out there, but, at 85, he doesn't bother much. I think I commented here once that I use long thick tube socks with the toes cut off to play with our younger one. Along with thick gloves, they sure save me from playful teeth and claws. But they aren't as nice looking as the sleeves.
