Rocky?

I did it!   I'm having "Rocky" shipped from AZ in about two weeks.  He is at an adoptable age right now and I decided to go for it, although I asked for a couple of weeks to allow my eye to get better.

We had a list of names to consider and Jeannie's two girls finally both agreed on Rocky, so Rocky it is.  Jeannie later said that it is appropriate because my first lab was Smoky, as in the Smoky Mountains.  Now I have one named for the next mountain range, Rocky.  I told her I'd have to eventually get "Sierra", but that would have to be a female.  Who knows, next year I might go back for Sierra!

I'm a little scared and very much excited.   Here is a photo of Rocky.

You can click on this picture to enlarge it a bit.

My mother used to be fond of saying, "There's no fool like an old fool", and she's probably saying it right now from wherever she is, laughing her head off.

  1. That sure is a cute puppy. Wouldn't it traumatize such a young dog to get shipped alone?

  2. Breeders do it all the time. I would imagine they slip a little bit of a sedative into their pre-flight meal. From my experience (and I don't have a clue what a plane would be like for them) most dogs take advantage of time by taking a nap.

  3. Also, Rocky would be about 10 wks old today, so when he arrives he will be 12+ wks which would equate to approx. 3 mos. old, and I think he will handle the trip far better than if he was a few wks younger.

    1. My daughter told me that by law a pet traveling on a commercial flight cannot be given any drugs to make them sleepy. It can cause heart problems.

  4. He's soooooo cute. And since we have a Rocky, I love that name. I really hope you're ready for a puppy. And I hope he can survive the heat in the plane. Let us see pictures, lots of them, when he arrives.

    1. I am told that United has a special air conditioned compartment in the plane to carry pets. I can't wait until he arrives. This evening I bought a pet bed and organic puppy food!

  5. My mom had a cat named "Rocky" It was the last kitten in a pet store in Rock Springs Wyoming. He was a great pet. Good luck with the pup.

  6. Congratulations! He's darling. I hope you two have wonderful times together. The plane flight sounds scary though. Is he from a breeder?

    1. Guess I should have read the other comments and your replies and I would have known about the breeder.

    2. Yes, and the breeder has assured me about the shipping process for pets on United airlines.

    1. I hope to take pictures documenting every stage he goes through! I hope I can deal with the puppy stage, but I know something will get chewed while I'm not looking.

  9. My Mystic was a Black Lab and she was just the best ever. A great companion, very obedient and always wanting to please. Miss her!

    1. Aren't they wonderful? I think black labs are the best and easy to train because they want to please.

  10. WOW you did it. Hope it does well on the plane at least it isn't a long flight. I could never get a puppy because I am terrible at the house training part. Good luck and enjoy him

    1. I trained my last one when I lived in a condo in Northern VA, and it wasn't too difficult as I remember it. Or maybe I don't remember it so well :-)))

  11. This is very exciting! Nice that you'll have some time to puppy proof the house (chew-proof!) and get things set up. He is just gorgeous!

    1. Thank you for the reminder that I only have 2 weeks to puppy-proof. I can look in each room and see what my job is going to be - monumental!

  12. Make sure to put all your shoes away. I just had one of my Birkenstocks chewed up. My fault they were left out. Young dogs are a lot of work but defiantly worth it. She gives me a reason to get up in the morning.

    1. That is one thing I'm so looking forward to - getting up in the morning and not being alone. Morning is my favorite time of day and it's going to be even better! Thanks for the tip about the Birkies. I leave mine close to the bed so I can slip them on when I get up, but I'd better rethink that.
