Backpacking trip part 1

I will post some photos and leave out the history of the hike for a couple of days.  I have lots of photos, so please bear with me.

The trail was extremely rocky - small rocks and large boulders, some of which I had to crawl over.  I took several tumbles which will be described in future posts, but leave it to say that yesterday I declared that I was finished with backpacking forever!  Today I suggested to the girls that this is Hike #1 of our Yearly 3 Generation hike!  Am I a fool or what?  There is no fool like an old fool, my mother used to say!

  1. Great pictures. And I just want you to know that I cant trip and fall around here. I think you are doing great to be scrambling around on rocks. But it looks like you were having such a good time (most of the time).

  2. Yeah. That's like saying, after drinking or eating too much, NEVER AGAIN. There is always an AGAIN if it's something you love. That is beautiful terrain - it would be great to put up a small tent right there and call it a day.

I'm curious - did you weigh your pack before you started? (I always used to weigh mine.) If so, how much did it weigh? I'm wondering how much us old gals can handle these days, and how light the newer stuff makes the pack. Just in case. :)

  3. You got to be careful when hiking way out in the middle of nowhere, even if you are with others. It is a long way back if you have to carry someone.

  4. Hope you didn't break your bottle of beer when you fell down. ;)

  5. Lots of nice photos. We just have to keep in mind we are not as bendable or bounceable as we once were.

  6. Never say never, just maybe a bit slower and on more level surfaces the next time. I bet they wouldn't hesitate to slow the pace just so you could enjoy spending time together again. I'm sure you're the one who gave the girls the love of hiking and outdoors. What wonderful memories they'll always have of time spent with you, and will talk often of having to patch up grandmas' nose and knee when she took that fall/tumble that time on a hike together!! The photos' are so fun to look at, and I hope you have plenty more to share when you stop putting some of us younger folks to shame, ha! Have fun! ~Pam in Louisiana~

  7. Isn't that area kind of known for the rocks? Maybe try something more north or south. Keep trying until you find perfection (could take many trips, pun intended).

  8. Well you did a little damage but it looks like you all enjoyed your hike. Yep easier ground for your next hike and I bet you will do another one just to be with your girls. I give you a lot of credit you set your mind to do this and you did it.

  9. I love the photos, what a neat area. Sorry for the tumble but the memories made will live long after the pain is gone.
