Great day, so far!

I drove to Sears this morning to find they didn't have a watch repair dept.  A friendly clerk told me about a kiosk on the lower level, and I had a new battery in about one minute!  It cost about double what I might have paid for the battery in Rite-Aid, but getting the darn thing inserted was worth the extra.

I made an amazing discovery yesterday.  I have been out of my glucosamine-chondroitin supplements for a couple of weeks now and thought I might be able to get along without them.  It dawned on me that the worsening pain in my knees might be arthritis, and mentioned it to my son.  He offered me some of the supplements he has, Osteo Bio-Flex, and I couldn't believe that the very next day after I had taken them my knees barely hurt when coming up the steps.  I've taken the Osteo Bio-Flex now for two days and the pain is gone!

I started taking glucosamine after I had to quit backpacking because of severe arthritis in my right side.  It took 8 weeks to become pain free, and I've continued taking them.  I guess I can't stop, but it's worth it to not have the pain.  When I was first diagnosed with the arthritis, the doctor prescribed Elavil (yes, an anti-depressant!!!).  I think I might have taken one or two of those and the side effects were horrendous, so I threw them away.   Another backpacker recommended the glucosamine to me, but he stressed it takes 8 weeks to be effective, and it did.

I'm not sure what is in the Osteo Bio-Flex as it is a proprietary formula, but I'll take it until my glucosamine arrives - I ordered it from Costco and expect it any day now.

It's a beautiful day here - 69 deg. now but going up to 74!  I love this weather!

  1. We took it for years until the scientific studies came out that it was fairly worthless. I can't say we had any change in when we stopped taking the same as you, except we were spending less. But then again it doesn't seem to have any negative effects, so if you think it helps and want to keep spending, that is ypur choice. It seems to work well on dogs and the vets reccomended.

  2. Are you telling me that being free of joint pain for about 18 yrs, after a CT scan showed extreme arthritis, is all in my mind? But it works well on dogs.

  3. Interesting your experience with both of these arthritis preparations. I took glucosimine/condroiton too and didn't notice much of anything either while taking it or after stopping. I might try the Osteo-bioflex. Any reason you aren't going to continue with it given how fast it worked??

  4. I think it worked so fast because I had been taking my regular brand for so long and just recently ran out. I imagine they both work about the same, and it is imperative to give the full 8 weeks to notice a difference. I can't tell you how many backpackers will agree with my assessment. I also told my son when he complained of arthritis, and he's the one who got the Osteo Bio-flex (they don't belong to Costco, where I buy the Costco brand). When I told him how I had noticed a beneficial effect in just two days, he smiled and nodded. He knew what I was talking about.

I think the reason some scientific studies might not prove the efficacy of this product is because "scientific" studies are paid for and performed by drug companies, and of course they would prefer doctors to recommend a toxic medicine they own the rights to and make a profit from.

  5. My uncle and several other people I know swear by glucosamine-chondroitin supplements, so I am a believer.

  7. One other thing is you and your son and other who benefit from a glucosamine-chondroitin supplements just may need more in your diet than others that it doesn't seem as helpful for

  8. Why not take the same as your son if they work faster? glucosamine never worked for me as a matter of fact it made my pain worse.
