Rain today...finally!

I am so glad to see it although Rocky will track wet paws all over the floor from his trips to the back yard!  I set my tomato plants out to catch some good rainwater.  Since I'm now mostly staying in the house, I don't mind the rain at all.

I have been getting strong feelings that I should stay home and away from the stores and crowds.   The virus is a threat to us all, and I was surprised to read that it is especially serious for those over 60.  Sixty???  That sounds pretty young to me - not even the traditional retirement age.  Of course there will be times when I have no choice but to go out.  Rocky's nails need to be clipped and I would try to do it except for my weird vision problems.  When I can't apply lipstick evenly, how in the world would I be able to determine where to make the cut on Rocky's nails.

And speaking of lipstick, I just got showered and dressed, and of course applied lipstick.  I even dabbed on some cologne that was given to me at Christmas.  I have to look at the comic side of all this - here I am all alone at home and will be here all day, but if I don't use the cosmetics and perfumes that I have on hand, someone will have to throw them away eventually.  Some of these products makes Rocky sneeze, and he's staying across the room from me right now until the worst of it is abated.  I've lost (or lessened) my sense of smell, as happens with many older folks, so I rarely get a whiff of the lovely scent.

The rain has stopped for now and the sun is out.  I think we have more rain in the forecast for a couple of weeks.  Bring it on!  Every morning I bring out my two trays of tomato plants and set them in the sun, and each evening I bring them back in.  Sacramento almost always gets chilly in the evenings and downright cold overnight, even in the hottest of summer.   I've tried to post a picture of one of the trays, but simply cannot do it.  Every time my computer gets an automatic update it makes everything impossible or more difficult for me.  I wish they would just leave it alone for a while.  I think having the photos come from my phone rather than a real camera is another part of the problem.  (Glory Be!  I kept fooling with it and it finally worked.  Why did they change something that worked so easily and so well, to something you almost need an engineering degree to figure out!).  This is one of two trays, with a total of about 30 plants!)

I hope you all have a good weekend, and those of you in the "over 60" group, please try to stay away  from crowds or even stay home if you can.  When this is over with we need to have some folks still here with the experience and wisdom we've gained throughout the years.  That said, I wonder if anyone will listen to us!

  1. It is very wise to stay away from crowds.
Wishing you the best with your garden.
The problem is people get upset with what is going on and don't vote.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. You're right about the fact that people aren't voting. I couldn't believe it when I heard that many of those with the same political leanings as my own, didn't turn out last Tuesday to vote in the primary. What in the world is wrong with people. The biggest problem seems to be the stranglehold held by the national parties on who gets to run and is supported.

  2. I am with you on the forced upgrades with this nasty windows 10. I had so much trouble the last 2 times I tried to load my pictures, and that was with my camera.

Your plants are looking healthy. Are those paper cups that you can just bury into the ground and they will just rot off and you won't have to remove the plants from?

I know this virus is bad but I sure wish they would let us know how many people have died or have been hospitalized from the bad flu that was going around and still is from before this virus showed up. I bet it is pretty close to this one. I'll do a quick run in the morning to stock up on a few items and I usually don't go out much anyway. We are looking at some really bad weather this coming week anyway.

  3. So far the tomato plants seem to be very healthy. The paper cups have a plasticized coating. I will take the plant out of the cup and put it into the ground when it reaches the right size and the ground is warm enough to nurture the plants. It is all an experiment for me, and I hope that I get a decent yield out of approx. 30 plants.

I just don't know about this virus. It seems so different than previous illnesses and the death rate is scary. I'm having just about everything delivered from now on, and I'm pretty well stocked up to begin with. I'm really worried because of my age, and it's worse when I think about my almost 2 yr old puppy. I don't think any of my kids would want to deal with him, and he and I are so dependent on one another it would be so hard for him to not have me taking care of him.

  4. Your plants look so healthy bet you will have a bumper crop again this spring.

If the virus were not bad enough it is infuriating hearing Trump and his administration lie to the public. Why doesn't the Congress and the Senate try to hold him accountable?

His "it's all a hoax" and "he has a hunch it will dissappear by April" is bullshit we are not idiots!

I am so grateful for the years I lived in Houston and how authorities made sure the citizenry stocked up on everything one might need if a hurricane hit the area. It made preparing for this virus easier.

    1. There is no sane reason for anything Trump says. And i just don't understand why he is still president. He is a total asshole as far as I see it, and I don't think we would have stood for this if it was a Democrat president. Can you see us being so quiet if the President had been Obama? (I'm not crazy about Obama, but compared to Trump, there is no comparison.

  5. I am so in agreement with your wish that they would just leave well enough alone. Things work fine and then they do some dumb thing and they don't and I have to spend far too much time trying to figure out what they've done. It always results in more "clicks" to do the same thing. What will you do with 30 tomato plants? That could be a serious amount of tomatoes. Do you can or make sauce? Don't even get me started on Trump. Pretty sure he's going to get reelected since the Democrats will self destruct again if Biden gets the nomination since the Bernites will just stay home which is one reason why Trump got elected in the first place. And if Bernie gets the nomination lots of people consider him a "socialist" and think that = "communist" although why the right wing trump supporters don't think he's a communist with his ties to Putin I have no idea.

    1. People insist on calling Bernie a Socialist, while he is a Social Democrat, much like Franklin Roosevelt was. I just can't stand to see someone dismantling all our programs that help the majority of the people, in order to let the corporate wealthy destroy our system of governmet, checks and balances, etc. The real problem is that most people have their noses into their cell phones and don't want to face what is going on. Trump is unfit, medically, mentally and every other way to be President. I guess when Reagan was allowed to continue when his dementia took over and Nancy ran the country is the standard the Republicans will follow. How does Melania running the country sound? Or DonJr. or Invanka,

  6. I refuse to be intimidated by the Sars virus. I go about my business as usual. Went to Costco last Wednesday and the parking lot was full as well as the store. Some buggies had toilet paper but a normal amount and lots of it on the shelves. Today ai went to my normal store for a few odds and ends, full shelves there too. I usually buy when stuff is on sale and stock up then, so no problem there. Don’t even get me started on Trump! He bows down to the lowest denominator. Grrrrr wish America luck but unfortunately it will effect the whole world 🧐
Enjoy yourself, Gypsy, life is too short.,

    1. I've never been worried about other viruses and epidemics, but this one has me nervous. For one thing I'm older now and would probably not be able to fight it off, although I am pretty healthy for my age. I think I'm stocked up pretty well and just hope the electricity doesn't go out. I have my fridge and freezer fairly well stocked, plenty of packaged and dry foods on hand, and even a couple bottles of spirits if I need a "pick-me-up" in the evenings. I worry about my kids though, and don't think they have any idea of what lies ahead.
