This beautiful creature landed on the railing of my deck this afternoon, and stayed long enough for me to grab my phone and get a couple of photos. Of course, Rocky went ballistic. After a few minutes the bird flew up towards the roof and I still have the smile on my face, hours later.
Sorry the darned blinds got in the way. I hope you can see the turkey a little better by clicking on one of the photos. It really is a beautiful creature.
I think there are lots of turkeys around this neighborhood. I once saw 4 or 5 of them on someone's porch! I have never had Rocky chase a bird although he watches them. I guess to him a turkey is a creature that shouldn't be in his space, not a bird.
I ordered a treadmill this afternoon, and it is to be delivered March 28. I'm so worried that there will be no deliveries of anything by then, the way it sounds. The treadmill is one that is designed mainly for seniors, having good long arm rails, and a simple display. There aren't as many options displayed as with most treadmills, and that is exactly the way I like it. All I want is start, stop, and speed adjustment. I think this one can tell you calories burned as well, but I won't ever use that option because I simply don't care. My younger sister just got a treadmill of her own, although I'm not sure she has been on it yet. She still has problems with dizziness and should have someone with her for the first few times. Unfortunately, there probably won't be much getting together in the near future and for some time.
The gardener was finally able to cut the grass in the back yard after it rained so much last week. I really wish I could get several bags of weed & feed for the yard, plus I need lots of topsoil, fertilizer etc. for my garden. I am trying to get it ready for the tomato plants, and pulled all the peas that were ready. I ate some for dinner this evening and they are really tasty. I just don't think I'll grow them again (but I might change my mind after all) and they take up a lot of space. If I was younger I would build a trellis for them so they would grow up rather than sprawl. It turned out to be a great crop in this area for late winter/early spring.
That's all for now. Stay safe, everyone, and avoid crowds if at all possible.

Sounds like the tread mill I was thinking of buying easy not all that stuff to try and figure out. My bike is really easy to.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you try the peas again maybe you can hang a string from one end of you garden to the other so they can climb that and plant less.
Love the turkey on your railing.
I think I will really enjoy walking on the treadmill, safe inside my home.
DeleteI may plant peas next year, but won't decide that now.
The turkey really made my day!
Gardening is a great thing to do while you are forced to shelter in place.
ReplyDeletei'm just doing a little at a time, and that seems to work better for me.
DeleteYou got a good shot of the turkey...We see them up here too.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter left her treadmill here, I should use it more. Our CBC radio is doing an excellent job of covering this pandemic. It has been my preferred station for years...during the phone in, one of the question a lady had for the Dr.was. about handling an upcoming delivery. He said wipe the chair down, also doorknobs etc. and keep a proper distance from them...If there is something to sign, I prefer to use my own pen. (my hint). :-)
This virus can live for 6 days on metal surfaces...If the treadmill is not in a box, I would disinfect for sure. Another person just returning back here from Florida tested positive. People are supposed to go straight home for 14 days.and let someone else shop.
That turkey was the coolest thing I saw today. I'm amazed at how many folks are out walking today, everyone in a good mood and just enjoying a beautiful day. I think the air quality seems so much better too.
DeleteLove your turkey but I can just see Rocky wanting to check him out. I wonder if any of the lessons we're learning now will stick once this crises is over or if people will go back to the same old habits.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I think the lessons will just reinforce what many of us older folk aready know - prepare for a rainy day. The younger ones have been taught to want something new and they want it quickly. They need constant change and instant gratification. I don't think it's all their fault - developers and advertisers bombard them with constant updates and upgrades and new products, and they take it for granted. I wonder how they can deal with months of quarantine. I hate the thought of it, myself, but I will make it and I'm sure you will too.
DeleteWhat a beautiful creature that turkey is. Yeap, Rocky was protecting his turf!
ReplyDeleteWill it come assembled or do you have to put it together? I had a good chuckle when I read this...
"I think this one can tell you calories burned as well, but I won't ever use that option because I simply don't care."
In these trying times it is good to laugh...thank you :)
Donald will assemble it for me. He did the same for my sister, Amy, who bought one but hasn't as yet been on it.
DeleteRocky is really protective for being a labrador retriever. I know they are great friendly dogs. They can be funny and silly. Rocky is all that but he watches out for our territory and his "bad bark" sounds ferocious!
I felt the same way about wild turkeys when we first moved to the country. Never saw any where we moved from. However, there is an awful drawback to them if you feed birds. They will jump on the railing to get into feeders and crap all over your deck which will be a huge mess for you to clean up. Trust me, they don't stay 'charming' long after that. I had a black lab and he was good at chasing them out of the yard. They get more wary about coming back after that. Rocky will never catch one because they run fast and fly just as well. Just my 2 cents.
