If it isn't one thing ---

...It's another!  The news is full of the coronavirus, which can really bring your spirits down if you are following it.   There have been several events over my lifetime that were frightening to me, but I hoped to get through old age without so much trauma.

Many of the news stories point to a very negative future outcome and that is depressing, especially since I am at the age that seems to be particularly susceptible to it.  Then, finding out that it can appear in dogs was the final straw to me.  Rocky and I are going to stay in our own house and yard as much as possible, and hope we can escape the worst of it.  As long as I get any visitors at all, however, I'm just a sitting duck waiting for the axe to fall.  This year would have been bad enough, with a nasty political scene ahead of us.

So when things get too negative or sad or infuriating, I listen to Cuban music and am transported into another world.  It's a world of beautiful people who have lived through trauma  and bad times, and have come out the other side being much better off.

Today was my lucky day in one respect.  Donald can't take me to my dental appointment tomorrow so I had to cancel and reschedule it.  Now I have a full week's reprieve!  It must be my age that makes it so difficult to recover from the anesthetic, drilling, pushing & pulling on my teeth.  When I finally have everything taken care of I am never going back!

I've just checked the 2-week weather forecast and it looks like we will have plenty of rain in March.  That is fine with me as I'd like to keep my grass green as long as possible.  I started pulling weeds and grass from my garden plots today and have a lot yet to do in order to get everything ready for planting my spring garden.  I've started 30 tomato plants from seed (5 different varieties) and they are coming along nicely.  I hope to get them into the ground around the beginning of April which should be warming up nicely, and the threat of rain reduced.

I've been trying to get to bed a little earlier each evening, and then be able to get up at a decent time in the morning.  I hate to sleep late because then I miss the best part of my day.

Wishing you all the best and hoping the world gets back to a better place very soon.  Take care and try to stay safe.

  1. I heard one "expert" say that by the middle of May the virus should have mostly run its course. For once I really hope they're right. Jim would love to help you with your tomatoes - at least the eating part. 😁

    1. If all goes well, can you just imagine my tomato harvest? I've alerted Donald he can make lots of tomato sauce!

I personally don't believe a word of what the "experts" or government officials say about this virus. Their main objective is to prevent panic, so they wlll play everything down to the point of being ridiculous. "Liar, liar, pants on fire" comes to mind whenever any official makes a statement to ease public fears.

  2. I must admit this coronavirus has certainly upset my little world. In particular when the administration is lying to its citizens. So glad we live in a country that (for now) has freedom of the press as well as other outlets where we can get verifiable information unlike other countries.

Good to hear you will be having rain events in your forecast. We finally had rain last night and my primative rain catchment are once again full (I use new 32 gallon trash cans) as water barrels are too expensive.

    Good luck with your garden.

    1. I am not entirely sure our government will tell its citizens the absolute truth about anything. They don't want panic and don't mind lying to us to prevent it. Also, I get my news from a variety of youtube sources. The TV newscasters put a slant on everything they report.

  3. Please relax and enjoy life. There's too much media vying for headlines today. And I cringe when some article with all the updated details and advice was written by a 19 year old just out of journalism school. Check your odds, you a have better chance of winning the lottery.

    1. If I could go out to a store that had a lottery ticket machine, I would buy one after reading your comment!

I hate to be negative, but every government in the world is being reactive to this virus. Why can't we be proactive - conduct school classes via TV, let people work from home, push ordering online rather than having folks crowding the stores, some of whom might be carrying this terrible virus. I don't think the government is being candid with the people about this - they surely know it isn't going to go away without extreme intervention - so it makes sense that they aren't trying very hard for a reason. Who even wants to consider what that reason might be. Sorry for being such a Debbie Downer today.

  4. Cleaning out your weeds and getting your garden patch ready will keep you busy and not spend so much time worring about things we can't fix. Phil is so correct. Sounds like you will have plenty tomatoes to share and if Donald can can them all the better. Wish I wasn't so lazy and learn how to can. I watch a YouTube couple Simple Living Alaska, these kids are amazing. They aren't kids but to me they are LOL They are so self sufficient.

    1. When I was a young kid my mother spend weeks out of each summer canning. My job was to watch the younger kids, so I didn't learn anything about canning except it was hot work, back in the days before a/c.

  5. I know what you mean about the coronavirus with Doctor Trump and then the ever-present political horrors. It does seem like the world and that handbag slogan. But then there's always the hope of home-grown tomato plants.

    1. My dog and my garden keep me going! It's getting crowded in that handbag, by the way.
