The years certainly make a difference. I desperately need and want to go to the gym, and keep going to the window to see if the rain is still coming down. I look out and say, "No, Marty, you can't go out in this!".
There was a time many years ago when no weather issue would keep me home if I wanted to go somewhere, especially on a Friday night. I've been known to head out on streets coated with ice, and there must have been plenty of other idiots doing it too because the dance/bar/party - whatever I went to - was always crowded.
Now I look out and see a few people go walking by in the rain and I wonder when did it happen that I became so cautious and afraid to just live my life as I want.
I'm glad I waited a few minutes because now it is raining heavier again. Without a TV I have no clue what is happening in the rest of CA, but I hope all the dams and levies hold. A lot of rivers are rising pretty quickly though, and will undoubtedly go over their banks.
There is certainly no excitement to this day, and I can't even look forward to the circulars that usually are the only mail I get!

Hi. I forgot what the reason is that you can't have an antenna TV where you live. It seems like if cellphones work, that tv antennae would work!
ReplyDeleteI think I can have an antenna if I buy one and have it set up. I just don't want to waste my time on TV any more. I look at Google News two or three times a day and ALL there is are political crap stories, and I try to keep my mind off anything political! So no TV. I was finding it a real drag anyway, with not much I ever wanted to watch. I miss the local news and weather, but that's it.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever change your mind about TV, check out Winegard antennas on the internet. My daughter was so impressed with the small one that came on our small trailer that she bought that brand for her house. Hers is small and is on the railing of her deck & brings in three channels, you hardly even notice it is there as hers is a rectangle shape. Wasn't too expensive either.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever decide to watch tv again I will definitely get an antenna that will bring in local channels and for which I don't have to pay a month service for. There are a lot of channels out there that I can't believe anyone watches, and I'd never go back to mindlessly scrolling through all that garbage again. For now I only miss having TV now and then, but I would rather play a computer game or work a crossword puzzle. They keep my mind much sharper than watching House Hunters, or god forbid, CNN, MSNBC or Fox news!

DeleteWithout tv for 30 + years, I am so sheltered,apparently! You have again opened my eyes to "real" reality. Just look around and see we are a nation of the hypnotized! No, I do not miss the noise from our outer world. I'll take my trickling waters and greening life - May you also,Gypsy! - here today, Tell me, what's happening with your art; I'm wondering a tad. I lost the time, thus the interest and ability in so many directions I've been, art and music the main two. Beautiful day here , over the mountain from Ashville. :) I'd send you a bunch of Ashville to savor, if it were possible. I really would. Imagine a breath of that air, the pine. Hope your days improve. Mine too.
On days like the one you've had, we surely have enjoyed watching reruns of old shows (without commercials!). Last week we thoroughly enjoyed a trip up the Nile River with Joanna Lumley. Then we watched her wonderful coverage of Greece. We learned a lot! We have Amazon Prime. Like you, we refuse to watch the news. I get the weather on my iPhone.
ReplyDeleteToday with the rain pounding away I'm playing Mahjongg, and then I'll switch to a crossword puzzle now and then. I like the really challenging puzzles that make me think.

ReplyDeleteI can't say I don't miss it now and then, but I've never been sorry I cancelled my service. The TV is still sitting here in my living room - the old fashioned kind in a big box with a slightly contoured screen. (I notice that the wonderful flat screen tv's are now getting some curvature back.) The big flat screen TV's make my eyes burn.
DeleteYou can just download or upload which ever is correct of just the Weather Channel then you can keep track of what is happening around you. There are many just weather channels.
ReplyDeleteThat's usually what I look at to get the weather picture, although they have so many ads on their pages it's not as easy to maneuver through and find what you want. And then, everything is a video, which I don't care for. I want to read the article myself. But the Weather Channel does give me more info than anywhere else.

ReplyDeleteMy local TV channel had the Accu-Weather report, and yes I liked it. But the one on the computer seems to be totally different and I'm not getting the details I'd like to have.
DeleteI think we become more cautious as we age because we see that our lives are in their latter years and we don't want to do anything to shorten them. As young people we had what seemed like forever in front of us......what could happen? We've lived a great deal of life and now we know what can happen. Guess that's what they mean by being wiser.
