Figured it out

Last night I was reading the book on eliminating grains (carbs) from the diet, and it mentions that withdrawal from carbs and sugars can sometimes be experienced.  That is why I have been relatively listless, find it hard to concentrate on anything for very long, and feeling like there is something I want but can't figure out what it is or how to get it.  Then I realized it's the damned sugar & carbs.  I think it's easing a little today, but I'm still not back to normal.  If this is what happens when you stop then I don't want any more sugar or carbs than the minimum.  I've been through withdrawal from tobacco as well as some OTC meds (Benadryl) and I don't want anything like that in control of my life.

I made a quick trip to Costco this morning to buy eggs (I'm going through a lot of them lately), and bought a couple of packs of LED light bulbs.  I only opened one package and will return the other one.  I'll go back to Home Depot and pay slightly more for something that will improve the light and my being able to see well.  I hope I can find the guy who sold me the lamp and bulbs last week - his recommendations were perfect!

I'm totally discouraged about finding the dog I want, so I think I'll just chill out about it for now.  I received a notice of a dog at the Sacramento City Shelter, which is located downtown on Front Street.  There is no way I'm going to drive into Sacramento, ironic because I used to drive to work every day for 6 years.  It's not a difficult city to drive in, but I've made up my mind to avoid cities and traffic whenever I can, and I'm going to stick to that.

  1. Funny how many people's blogs I read where they are eliminating something from their diet. Gluten or carbs or oil or meat or some combination of them. So funny to think back to my childhood when we ate every one of those things and never thought at all about it.

  2. Hi again, Gypsy. I lost 40+ lbs. following Atkins' low carb diet. Over some years gained a lot of it back, then did Atkins again. It works to lose weight. Well remember those days of keeping the carbs near 20! What happened to me: the first time, I was so happy to see my doc what with my great weight loss. He was happy, too. UNTIL he got the results of my blood work. My cholesterol was nearing 300! Now, I had a longstanding problem with cholesterol, but it had skyrocketed. I blamed the eggs. Atkins said that cholesterol numbers usually come down along with weight. That did not happen for me. After six months of nearly eliminating eggs, my numbers came down a lot. The next time I followed the diet, I used Eggbeaters. Just thought I would tell you, since you are doing low carb and eating lots of eggs.
Still hoping you and a dog get together.

    1. Those Atkins based diets are dangerous. Everyone looses weight but they don't bother to get their blood work done. Cholesterol goes down with weight only when a proper low fat, low cholesterol, diet with lots of complex carbs with fresh fruit vegetables and whole grains. The only "carbs to avoid" are the simple bad ones. Sugar, white enriched flour, and anything made from those things. I've done the Adkins, and it is dangerous. The only reason its so popular is its easy to stay on.
Eggs, bacon, meats, etcetera, who wouldn't want that.
