Time Change

How do you get a dog converted to standard time from daylight savings time?  He loves his food and doesn't even want to wait until meal time to start putting on the act that he's starving.

I didn't post yesterday because I spent a lot of the day in tears.  We must be reaching a particular mark in his maturation where he is exceedingly annoying.  And enjoying it!  He isn't much better today.

I desperately need to get new glasses and hope they improve what I can see.  Reading is becoming more of a problem, as is recognizing people from any distance.  I hope none of my neighbors thinks I am ignoring them - I just don't always make out the features from any distance at all.

That's all from me for today!

  1. Please don't take this as criticism but Rocky is probably bored and has a lot of pent up energy. He needs to run, Gypsy, and not be cooped up all the time or going on slow walks. I know from personal experience - as you do too having a lab before- that his behavior would improve dramatically if he had enough exercise. I don't know how you could do that right now in your present circumstances but hopefully you will be able to get the duplex and have a yard to throw a ball.

    1. I think you've nailed the problem exactly. I can tell that walking him, even briskly, doesn't suffice for an active pup at his age.

    2. I took him over to the dog park a few minutes ago as there was no one there. For some reason (the staff had probably watered it) the ground was muddy and torn up where he wanted to be, and I brought him out of there when he started eating dirt! He puts everything and anything into his mouth. He looked at the ball the few times I threw it, and then totally ignored it and got back to the mud! I have said before that I don't like that place at all, have always had a bad feeling the few times I've gone in there. I'll continue to walk him numerous times a day, some long walks and some shorter. I'm doing the best I can at this particular time, and many people probably think I should never have gotten a puppy in the first place.

    1. I sometimes think I won't live until "old age", haha.

  3. We don't change our wall clock. Old Man takes many meds during the day. It is difficult enough to keep all on a schedule; never mind adding in a clock change! We just keep the dogs on the same clock. Easier for all concerned. I do change the stove & microwave clocks. And the one by my bed.
We do need to know the time according to the world outside. I hope Rocky settles down enough for you to get a break!

    1. I usually change everything as soon as I get up the morning of a time change, but have only just changed my watch! Rocky has another day or two until all the meds are taken, and I can only imagine your situation with keeping meds on time.

Rocky is an active dog although his illness kind of messed him up and he slept a lot. Now I think I'm in for it since he is feeling better.

    1. It's just one of those things you go through with a puppy. The time change is awful and I don't know anyone who likes it. I wish someone would organize a protest against it and that people nationwide could express their discontent.

  5. I can not offer any suggestions on Rocky. I have only had one dog in my life and that was more than enough for me.

The cats are driving me crazy you would think they were dogs...they follow me around everywhere...I am afraid I am going to fall one of these days. Paquito wants to eat constantly and Momma cat wants to beat them up. My stress level is through the roof!

    Misery loves company :-(

    1. I think most puppies and kittens are difficult to deal with at least some of the time. I express my feelings and don't try to sugarcoat them, which I think upsets a lot of people who don't realize I need an outlet to let off steam. Evidently the blog isn't the place to do it. I should write a post on it!

  6. Could you ride a three wheel trike? I was thinking if you could, you could take Rocky out and maybe wear him out a little bit chasing you on the bike. They have special leashes to hook onto bikes. Just a thought I had. We crossed three time zones in five days getting back to AZ and let me tell you, both the pups and I are all messed up. Skittlez wants her breakfast at 4:30 in the morning and she is really insistent. I got her to wait until 5 this morning but it will be awhile before we're back on the right time zone.

    1. Rocky is so strong he could pull any kind of bike or trike, and I see folks riding happily along being pulled by two little dogs. Rocky would probably go too fsst and I'd overturn and be killed! I am constantly telling myself he is like a toddler who only thinks of his wants and needs, and couldn't care less about mine. He is careful (most of the time) when we are going down the back steps and waits for me, and for that I forgive him for all the other stuff!
