My favorite place

As most of you know Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places to browse, especially with grandchildren.  I had never taken Liam and since his birthday is coming up  real soon, we went birthday present shopping.  He realized very quickly how easy I am when it comes to buying  books, and he made a haul.  Add to that the two books I brought back from Alaska that he can read to his baby sister when she arrives, and he is all set.  Liam is 5, soon to be 6, and reads like a child much older than his years.  I found a really good atlas of the U.S. for kids that has so much good info in it, but couldn't find a World Atlas.   He has enough to keep him busy for a while.

After selecting the books we went into the Cafe; he pointed out some scones on a plate and I got one for him, after which he told me he always eats three.  So back to the counter to get two additional scones.  I don't know what beverage to get a kid at Starbucks, so he ended up with something called a frappucino.  He noticed somewhere on the cup the word "decaffinated".  I thought, Oh lord, don't let me be giving him coffee at his tender age!  A sip or two would be ok but this was a big cup of frozen slushy goodness with a shot of chocolate on top.  He drank every drop of it!

After enjoying our refreshments and driving back to my house, he read me part of one of the new books.  Then he wanted to get the kids dinosaur site on my computer and play some of the games and quizzes.  The kid is really knowlegeable and good at it.  When his dad finally came to get him I think I was ready for a short nap!  What a fun day.

I'm debating going to the gym this evening for my walk, although I have been walking around my neighborhood in the evenings, and always meet a man coming in the other direction who tells me I am good looking!   His eyes are worse than mine, evidently.  He is one of the few people in the Park that even speaks to me.

    1. It was fun for both of us, and I haven't heard any feedback about coffee nerves so far!

  2. That is such a fabulous way to spend time with a grandchild. A little flirting is a good thing. Just sayin'.

    1. I love it because I can see the positive results in all my grandchildren, who all love to read. (Well, one of them isn't all that crazy about it but I'll keep working on her!)

Once is flirting; two days in a row is suspicious! I can flirt with the best of them but am not interested in anything more.

  4. Well sure sounds like you Liam had a great day today. I have 2 birthdays this weekend and they are getting books I purchased a while back about the creatures of the desert.

    1. I always like to get books because reading helps them throughout their lives, and because enough others get them toys & games. I got an email from Liam's Mom (Megan) and she said Liam was reading one of his new books to his Dad before he went to sleep tonight.

I wanted to get myself another large-print crossword puzzle book, but they didn't have any!

  5. Maybe that guy you see on your walks is getting up the nerve to ask you out.

    1. That's what I'm afraid of, although he is probably just being nice.

  6. LOL at "his eyes are worse than mine". Sounds like he might be sweet on you. Do you need a boyfriend? Maybe he camps, who knows. Wish you could have taken a picture of Liam and his books. Would love to see what he chose. Books are expensive, sounds like Grandma is very generous. What a wonderful time.

    1. He is reading Magic Tree House series, so we got two of those (he wants to read them "in order"!), plus the Magic Tree House Survival Guide; NatGeo Kids USA Atlas; Complete Guide to Dinosaurs; and Under the Sea. The last 3 were fairly expensive but 2 of them were on sale. All in all it is about twice what I might spend on a birthday present, but he is still an only child and next year I'll have two kids in the family to buy for. I got my members' discount, plus a $5 coupon from "Kids Club" purchases, so it wasn't too bad. And when a kid is so absolutely thrilled about the books he's getting I can't resist.

No, I don't want a boyfriend! Even a camping boyfriend. Been there, done that.

    1. Oh dear. It looked like a milkshake, and I asked him if it tasted like coffee and he said it didn't. I told his parents in case he started being hyperactive, but they said from the time he got home he wanted to read his books to them.
