Warming Up Again

It is quite warm today and will be much warmer tomorrow, but will then go back down to the more bearable lower 70's for a few days.  I've worried about raising and lowering the venetian blinds on my kitchen window - they are old and the mechanism doesn't work properly.   Since I know there's an accident waiting to happen, I went to Walmart this morning and bought a cheap pair of black-out panels.  They are a nice very light brown color which goes nicely with the colors in my kitchen; have a white foam backing that is supposed to keep the heat out as well as sunlight; and have a rod pocket so I won't have to buy a new fixture to hold it.  I haven't taken the blinds down yet - thought I would see how the curtains work.  In most circumstances I would need two pair for fullness, but I'm not concerned about the looks as they are strictly to keep the afternoon sun and heat at bay.   I'm happy with them for now at least, as I needed something right away with the summer weather being right around the corner.

I've been watching a youtube series on art - acrylics, color pencils, etc. and am ready to get back to it.  I know I'm going to be hindered by my eyesight, but I really only do the art because I enjoy it and it pleases me, so I'll plod on for now.   I'm thinking I might try something with the color pencils next, or even the water color pencils I have, although I don't think I really want to mess with water right now.  The series is from "Lachri Fine Art", and features an art teacher who works in just about all mediums.  One of the first videos I watched was when she showed her studio and all the art supplies, storage, etc.  I thought I had a lot of "stuff" but I guess I can expect an art teacher to have me beat!  I think she has as many brushes as Michael's!

I almost wish I had started this sooner, but as life usually manages to do it, things often come along when you need them, and I guess I needed art at this stage of my life.

  1. I haven't done a painting in a few years. Maybe I should get at it again. It takes a lot to get me to do it but once I am painting away, I love it.

  2. I was anxious to get back to it and tried to lightly sketch my subject on a small canvas. I do okay with drawing but not so good with the canvas. For one thing, my eyesight makes me think I'm centering the picture, but when I look at it I am always off. That is the mac degeneration and it is driving me crazy! I hate to give up acrylics but may just try some drawing on paper and see how it goes. I think you could get back to it and really enjoy it.

  3. Our daughter-in-law is so very talented when it comes to paintings. She's even got our son doing some and he's not too bad either. Sure didn't get any talent from me.

    1. You might want to try it again, and you may find out you're not bad at all! I have no real talent but found I enjoy trying. I never would have even considered it in my younger years as I was always a perfectionist in many things. Have I ever changed!

  4. I think that color will look quite nice with the yellow walks. Some times a new color added to a room gives it a new look.

Do your art and enjoy it to your hearts content.

    1. The art is not going well. I measure carefully, mark off grid lines, and still I'm off center and too far to the left. It's my eyes and I don't think I can do anything about it. I might take a break from painting and just stick to drawing for a while. I wanted to get one more acrylic done though, to finish off above the kitchen cabinets along one side.

  5. I wonder if you have talked with Ara about the problem with things turning out off center? Maybe there is some way she could help?

    1. She knows I have the problem and has never said anything. I find it discouraging and so far have just put up with it. Everything I've painted up to now is a bit off center, and I'm losing patience over it.

  6. I actually like things off center. Asymmetrical is also much more interesting to me. Hope your black out curtains work. I use mine at night and love them especially if I'm in a campground with those darn street lights.

    1. Some thing I don't mind off center, but not when I am trying to center something. The curtains do the job well. I just use them for the late afternoon sun. I would never use something like that in my bedroom, although lights outside don't bother me unless it's really bright. I sleep pretty soundly.
