Lazy Daze

I sure don't feel like going anywhere even though I have several errands I need to run by tomorrow at the latest.  I hate to wait for the last day for any reason.

I just heard from Jeannie that she won't be going to the gym this evening so I probably should go do my walking alone, but now I'm full from a big lunch.  I am getting tired of fixing bacon and eggs for breakfast - not tired of eating them, but just tired of cooking the bacon.  This morning I had an egg sandwich and had no grease spatters to clean up!

It was quite nice getting past Memorial Day without hearing a lot of fireworks.  There may have been some but they were way in the distance.

Well I just got back from my errands and forgot the most important thing - the library book that is due either today or tomorrow.  I just walked at the gym and came back home, and will have to go to the library tomorrow.

So now I will just go have my protein shake and forget about doing anything productive for the rest of the day!

  1. Bacon... sometimes I cook a whole pound at a time in the oven I put it on a cookie sheet / jelly roll... bacon on top of the wire rack... sometimes I use paper plates and napkins or paper towels in the microwave and I want to use them I take a couple pieces out of the refrigerator and if I'm frying eggs after the eggs are done at through a couple pieces in the pan in minutes they are... just some ideas

    1. I never microwave anything - my "wave" is where I keep bread, crackers, etc. I like to pan fry the bacon and save all the bacon grease for frying other things. I have an unopened pkg of bacon - I could just cook it all up and clean the stove once and for all - until the next time!

  2. I also like to bake my bacon in the oven. It is really easy, no splatters and you still have the bacon grease for other things.

    1. I should probably try the oven for cooking the bacon, but I'm a creature of habit, and there are many ways I follow the habits of a lifetime. That's not to say I can't try new things, but I usually go with what I've learned as a young girl. I am thinking about changing the way I cook bacon though.

  3. Ahh bacon, don't I love it, doesn't it make my cholesterol numbers soar....sigh. Having accomplished one thing in a day seems like quite enough for the leisurely life of a retired woman.

    1. I decided that (within reason) cholesterol numbers aren't as important as the drug companies would like you to believe. They've done an amazing job of convincing the medical profession, although I'm coming across more doctors who can't say it in so many words, but indicate that cholesterol is absolutely necessary for our bodies, including LDL. Our cells can't regenerate without it. It's a different thing if the numbers soar to a very high reading, but they should make the acceptable range quite a bit wider. I agree about one thing a day being enough for a retired person. If I get no help by this weekend I'm going to start doing things myself, like painting, hanging pictures, washing windows, etc. I'll certainly mess up hanging pictures and painting because of my distorted vision, but I'm the one who has to look at it!

  4. I use a grill mat on our Weber Barbecue and will cook up to three pounds of bacon at a time so that Kathy has it ready for any type of meal she wants to make. She packs them in layers and freezes them. When she needs any they can be warmed to room temp or heated in the Microwave. She doesn't save the drippings ( I wish she did) but the smoky flavour that the Bacon gets from the barbecue is worth the chore. There is little clean up, no smell or splatter in the RV or house. Lots of hungry neighbours though.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  5. I was so surprised to not have heard even one firework being popped this Memorial Day weekend. I think the rainy weather may have had something to do with it and I am so thankful. Living in the county we get all the city people coming out to visit their relatives and popping them until the wee hours of the night.
