Targeting

I was almost out of beer so I made a trip to Target this morning.  They have a 30 pack that used to cost $15, but has now gone up 50 cents.  Add the CRV charge onto that and it's still a good price.

I also bought a tube of Bengay that supposedly has a disappearing scent.  I'm a little suspicious but I'll try it.  My problem is mostly muscular, so the Bengay should help.

Returning home I was driving the speed limit on Folsom Blvd.  Several cars behind me pulled into the right lane so they could pass me up.  The car immediately in back of me pulled to the right, then swerved around in front on me and crossed over into the next turn lane.  The light was red, so he and I had to stop, and he wasn't any better off than if he had just stayed behind me and then pulled to the left into his turning lane.  California drivers!  They do that all the time on the freeway, pass on the right, pull in front, pass the next guy on the left, then cross 3 or 4 lanes of traffic to get to the exit ramp!

I got my rent and utility bill today and nearly passed out when I saw the cost of gas and electric.  I have mostly kept the thermostat on 65, but it's already been turned down to 60 after seeing the bill.  I normally turn on my computer in the morning and leave it on until I go to bed at night, but I will start turning it off if I'm going to be out for a few hours during the day.  I don't know what else to do, but maybe I'll make it up this summer when I'm gone for several months.

  1. I think the price of everything is going up and up but not our pension checks.

  2. Yes, the only direction prices ever go is up!

Had to laugh at your description of CA drivers. It's pretty much the same in TX. Our daughter, when she was a preschooler, summed it up: "He comes early to the red lights!" I never need to go on roller coasters; driving on the freeways here is heartstopping enough!

  3. I am so glad I live in a rural community. Driving is pretty relaxing most of the time.

  4. Yes, California freeways are a royal pain. And when I moved to San Diego I was so surprised when I experienced the first rain. It was like no one could drive in rain. Accidents all over the place. Like... It's pouring... SLOW DOWN! The newscasts were full of accident reports every time it rained. I've lived in the San Francisco area, San Jose, and Sacramento and have never seen anything like it. :(

  5. I'm like Vera, living in quiet areas with little traffic is a real plus. I used to work in heavy traffic years ago & now I will drive miles out of my way just to avoid it....

  7. Indiana drivers must have been trained in CA because they do that too. Drives me nuts. Everything is going up, that is except salaries and income, what on earth is everyone supposed too do???

  8. If you return the cans do you get your tax back? Many years ago when I lived for about a year in Michigan, they had something like that and you could take the cans and bottles back to the retailer and get the deposit back. Kept the side of the roads clean cause people would pick them up and turn them in.

  9. It seems that most drivers have lost their common sense once they get behind the wheel.

  10. Um...but the right lane is for people not going quite as fast - so mostly likely you were being called the "California driver".

Move over to the right, and mosey to your hearts content. Then you'll be passed on the left, as they're supposed to, because they can.

  11. Hard to break the habits of driving in OH. We do be always in the fast/passing lane. Even if we aren't going fast or passing. We are noted for it! :-)

  12. Yes, everything is going up and with the price of fuel it will continue going up. Many years ago there was a sign on I-80 going from Nevada to CA that said "Welcome to California, owned and operated by PG&E"
