No more ads!

You know how upset I was when all the ads began to appear on my computer a few days ago.  Every single application and website was affected, so I started searching for an ad blocker.  My Firefox had an ad block feature but they must have installed an update that no longer has it.

I found something that I could try for free for 7 days - I'm on day two now - and if I continue it I'll have to pay something like $5 a month.   I don't have any choice as the constant and infuriating ads were ruining my day.  They appeared everywhere!  So I will probably pay the $5 and continue the service.

The white grapes that I love so much are just about out of season now, so I bought dark purple ones.  They aren't as sweet as the white, but as I love grapes they will do.  I believe I've mentioned that I freeze them  (spread out on a small tray) and then transfer them to ziplock bags for freezer storage.  When they thaw they taste just like fresh grapes.  Many fruits seem to lose their crispness after being frozen and thawed, but I haven't found this to be the case with grapes.  If you like them as I do, buy some while they are available and try freezing them.  Costco carries grapes in boxes of 4#, so freezing half of them is ideal for me so they don't go bad before I can eat them all.

The sun is shining brightly for the first time today at nearly 5pm.  It has been a bit dreary for most of the day and rain is predicted for tomorrow and Saturday.

I hope you all have a good evening - coming up on another weekend again.  They  seem to appear out of nowhere!

  1. My son installed NoScript on my Firefox browser several years ago and it blocks ads for free. I do have to constantly click on "temporarily allow this page" though which can be inconvenient, but heck, it's free. NoScript basically disables Javascript.

    1. I initially set up Firefox to block ads, and everything worked perfectly. This influx of ads was sudden and overwhelming. Now Firefox doesn't have any option to block ads, so they've been bought, I think.

    2. That is interesting. I'll check it out.

  2. Let us know more about the ad blocker after the trial period.

  3. I started freezing grapes a couple of years ago just to make them last longer and found that I preferred to eat them frozen than thawed.

    1. I let them sit out just a few minutes and love them just before they completely thaw.

  4. I have had this happen a couple of times during the past 2 or 3 days: I type in weather.com and amazon.com shows up on my screen, flashing all the while. I delete the amazon page and try again. Tonight it only took 1 try, but sometimes I've had to try 2 or 3 times to get rid of the amazon page. What in the world is going on with computers. When I finally reached weather.com they printed a plea that I turn off ad blocker. I didn't as I just wanted to see the 15 day forecast for my area - 15 straight days in the 60's. My kind of weather! But there is definitely something strange going on with the internet.

I also clear out the cookies every few days. It's been about a week since I've cleared them: 569 deleted; 33 remaining. That is totally ridiculous, and if you've never given a thought to how many cookies are being stored on your computer, you might want to check. When I delete mine every day I usually get rid of 100+. I also delete all the unwanted history while I'm at it - every single site I've clicked on; if I go to a website and go from page to page of a site, that is an entry in history that I have to delete. Something is definitely changing about the way our computers work for us.
