Haircut

I got my hair trimmed today and asked my hairdresser to take some photos since I am no good at all with selfies.   It doesn't look as puffy as it did the last time, but I can probably fix that when I wash and dry it.  (Click on photo to enlarge)

Here is a front view:

I have to have the bangs cut shorter than I normally would because if any hair even touches my eyebrows or lashes it irritates my eyes.

On the way over I saw a sight that upset me.  I was stopped at a traffic light and in the next lane over was a pickup truck towing an open trailer, with ladders on the roof of the truck hanging over the bed, etc.  In the bed of the truck was a fairly large Husky dog, unrestrained.  When stopped at the light he had his paws up on the rim of the bed and was stretching way out over the side.  When the traffic moved the dog still stood looking out the side, and all it would take might have been an unexpected braking action and I'm afraid the dog would have been thrown out of the truck.  It was a 4-door truck and I doubt that both rear seats had people in them, so why wasn't the dog inside the truck where it would have been safer?  I suppose the dog was happy and having the time of his life with the wind blowing his ears back!  I was glad when I turned off on another street and the truck kept going.  We were on a road with 3 lanes of traffic in each direction, and heavy traffic most hours of the day.

I made a really delicious soup for my dinner this evening, seeing as how I probably won't be able to have a decent meal for at least several days.  It was so good, and I followed it with a dish of ice cream.

While I was at it I took a photo of my art work which I will show you.  Just keep the laughter and snickering down so that I can't hear it.  (I'm laughing right along with you however.)  I know they look more like tomatos and definitely not much like apples, but keep in mind they are Gala (or similar) type and are streaky.

Just before the end of class in Alaska the teacher said to be sure to sign the picture.  As you can see I tried to do that last night, and about 5 voices said "No" all at once.  One person told me that the canvas was too small, and I should sign it on the back if I wanted.  I refrained from saying that Bob Ross signs his painting with a flourish!

All I can say about the apples is that when I look at them from an angle or across the room, they aren't too bad; up close, I could die of embarrassment!  So if you look at this photo, walk away from the computer and check it out from a distance!  I will add that I'm having fun with this, no matter what, and at my age I'm determined to just forget my pride.  If I laugh first then other people don't have to worry about laughing.

    1. Thank you Dizzy. I would have liked a little more realism but wasn't using the proper brush to get it - at least that's how I see it. I'm going to keep on "keepin' on" as long as it's fun, interesting, and a learning experience!

  2. I think it's fantastic. There is no way I could do anything near as good as yours. And I love Gala's so that makes it ever tastier. Up in this part of the country, you will always see dogs in the back of trucks and it really bothers me. I know there is room for them inside. So glad you are having fun with your painting.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. I really enjoy the whole idea of doing something artistic, which I didn't think I was capable of. Whether or not I'm capable I'm loving it!

I can see letting dogs ride in the back of a pickup on a farm road, or even a little used paved road providing the truck isn't going fast. That's probably not a good idea at that, but in city traffic, total of 6 lane major road, it's unbelievable and I can't imagine someone who loves their animal would take such a chance with them.

  3. Looks good to me!

Did some quick research about your question on why lavender as an undercoat. It seems the theory is to use a complementary color for the undercoat. They talked about using green under flesh tones and blue under a pumpkin!!!

    1. Thanks for looking it up. Do you know I woke up in the middle of the night thinking the instructor told me that violet is on the opposite side of the color wheel from yellow. I checked my color wheel this morning first thing, and it's true. But if I do the entire canvas (a small one at that) in a shade of violet first, then I'll have to paint a background of something else to cover it up or tone it down. Nothing is easy, is it.

    2. Dear Aunt Marty,
While yellow is the opposite of violet or lavender, another choice is a shade of green for shadows cast under the apples (and you can mix a bit of super watered down black) and the areas of the apple that are red and in shade. Areas of the apple that are yellow and in shade can have lavender as shadow. Hope that helps. LOVE❤

    1. Thank you. I will love my haircut once I wash it and fluff it up. I signed the painting in Alaska with gypsy97 but they caught me before I could get the 97 on this one!

  5. I agree with the others, they look like apples to me and far better than any apples I ever painted before I just threw in the towel. I could only draw if the instructor was right there telling me exactly what to do and doing half of it. Where are the shadows she would say. I have no idea. I think this is great. I'd be very pleased with myself if I had drawn it and I didn't even notice the signature until you mentioned it. I was only looking at the apples so your painting is not too small for a signature. What kind of soup was your delicious bowl. I think I'll make some today since temperatures here aren't getting out of the 60's with rain.

    1. I just use a base of water and "Better than Bullion" chicken flavor (a paste you can buy), some chicken meatballs (very small, miniature meatballs I buy at Costco which are pre-cooked; I was lazy and used organic frozen mixed vegetables, then at the last threw in some spinach fettucini (which I crumble because I don't like the big long pieces). When it's nearly done (doesn't take long because just about everything is pre-cooked, I thicken some of the broth with flour and then add it back into to the pot. I don't make the broth really thick, just want it a bit thicker than it is normally. That's it. No additional salt, no spices; just throw in what you have or what you like. The Better Than Bullion is salty enough you don't need additional salt. I buy the bullion in Chicken and Beef flavors, and I've seen Vegetable flavor at Costco once in a while. It is a paste in a jar that you refrigerate after opening. I could't cook if I didn't shop at Costco! In an RV though, you would have a hard time storing the larger sizes and amounts of everything they sell.

  6. Very good...I think you just need to keep practicing. I like the abstract style. Like the signature on the front.

    1. I do need to keep practicing. I've decided I'm going to continue with fruits and maybe even vegetables on the small canvas boards, and then hang them in my kitchen.

  7. Nice hair cut, wish my hair would do that. Your painting is fine and since when are you not supposed to sign your work on the front? Even when I print out my pictures I sign my name on the the bottom close to a corner.

    1. It is some inside thing I don't know about yet - not signing on the front. These women all display their work at different venues, many of them are hanging in the local city hall, community buildings, etc. They also sell their work in many cases. Maybe it's a local Sacramento, or maybe a California thing, to keep the front of the painting free from signatures, etc. I'm just guessing at this, but they all agreed I shouldn't sign it. For now I'll just sign and date them on the back.

  8. I wish I could paint like you. The best I could ever do is "paint by numbers" ;-) I also like the way your hair looks. Well done on all counts. I once saw a dog falling out of a truck bed. He cried terribly. The driver picked him up and drove off. I hope he took him to a vet. I was disgusted.

    1. I remember the paint by numbers kits and that's the closest I ever came to painting. My hair is so easy to care for when it's in this style, and I really like the way it falls - no layering at all.

I wonder how many dogs fall (or jump) out of open bed pick-up trucks. I've never heard of it and maybe they are too smart, but my worry is a sudden jolt or stop could throw them off balance. It would be awful.

  10. I like your apples just fine and they look like Gala to me. I'd hang them up in my house.
