I almost forgot

I almost forgot to post this evening, probably because nothing happened today except my bi-weekly trip to the chiropractor.  That always makes me feel better!  Steve had planned to come over and assemble my art table, but Liam was home from school because he didn't feel well.  Steve thinks it sounds a bit like playing hooky, and I'm glad he let him get by with it.  I usually allowed my kids a day during the school year where they could stay home, sleep in, etc.  They usually got so bored by the end of the day they wish they had gone to school.

I am so tired of all the Halloween hype.  I think I did the Halloween thing once or twice as a kid, but it wasn't really a big thing then.   People didn't have money for elaborate costumes, bags of candy to hand out, etc., and of course without TV and the internet it could go by without you realizing it.  For that reason, I never liked the practice of trick or treat when i got older, and now that I see the money spent on costumes, decorating house fronts, and so on,  I think the money could be better spent on making disadvantaged children happy.   No kid needs a huge bag of sugary sweets though.

If you think I sound like Scrooge, just wait until all the Christmas hype (which has begun in most of the stores already).

  1. That's the thing that drives me crazy - Christmas decorations in September. What happened to one holiday at a time. Retail sales and our responsibilities as good "consumers" to keep the economy every increasing. I just wonder how big does it have to get? How much is enough? We simply can't keep expanding and expanding our stuff. How in the world did we manage to live so well with so little before the take over of our lives by corporate america. Sorry for the rant! You are hardly Scrooge compared to me.

    1. Sometimes I hate the thought of being this old, but I'm glad I grew up at a time when most people I knew were children of the working class. (Our dads worked in factories, not in fast food restaurants or Walmarts.) The consumer society is killing us as a nation and as a people

  2. It is crazy with the holiday stuff. I used to love holidays but not much anymore. When you realize that so many have nothing and some have to much. The stores drive me crazy as well. It's like Thanksgiving doesn't even matter anymore. I am getting rid of most of my decorations on Craig's List I can't be bothered.

    1. I haven't put up decorations for any holiday since my kids were small. I just don't do holidays any more, although I get my grandkids christmas presents.

  3. As far as I am concerned, Halloween is a non-holiday.

    1. I'll be glad when it's over. My daughter is planning to arrive so that she can take her kids trick or treating!

  4. When I was a kid we did not have costumes at least not store bought ones. I always wore an old white shirt that belonged to my dad and a face mask.

As an adult I no longer celebrate any holiday.
