Coming home to a hot house!

I left home a little after Noon today for Jeannie's house, where they were holding a birthday party for Arianna.  I left a fan circulating air through the kitchen, but turned off the swamp cooler.  I just came home at 6pm to 99 degrees INSIDE the house (it's only 100 outside), and of all things, the heater was running!  I'm really not sure how to turn the darn thing off, as it's usually something I ask Donald to do.  This is awful!  (I think I finally got it turned off.)

It was nice in Jeannie's air conditioned house, but even outdoors by the pool wasn't bad sitting in the shade with a mister gently spraying cooling moisture.  The heat was making me sleepy so I left early.  Also my arm hurts off and on.  Just 3 more wake-ups until I get these damn stitches out and I hope she doesn't tell me to keep a bandage on the wound.  I'm ready to give up the bandaging!

Things are going well with the photographs.  I've decided to keep two categories (each with lots of pictures) in one of the storage boxes.  That still leaves me needing to sort photos from when we lived in Sacramento from Oct 83 through Aug 89, and Northern VA for the rest of 1989 through my move to Ireland in 1990.  I'm making progress even if it is slow going.  And I'm sure I'll find other categories to just add to the photo boxes - much easier than putting them in albums.

This feels like a "go to bed early night", although it might or might not happen.  I don't even bother checking to see what is on TV these days.

  1. I guess your pilot is still on for the furnace thus making the fan run to cool it down. I need to turn my gas off too. but it is such a pain to relight again when it gets cold.

    1. Last fall I had to have one of the Park's maintenance men light the pilot. When it's only done once a year everyone forgets how to do it (it's an old model furnace and none of the kids have ever seen anything like it.)

  2. We never leave the rig without setting the air because it heats up so rapidly. I would think when the stitches come out your arm is going to feel way better.

    1. The house cooled down pretty quickly after I turned the cooler on. I hate to think of my electric bill this month, although it would be double or triple if I had a/c going constantly.

  3. I saw the temperatures you guys have been experiencing and I feel for you. Thankfully you got the house cooled fast.

    1. It will only get worse in the coming weeks and months. The swamp cooler is wonderful, although when it gets to 100 I almost have to run it on High, and it makes so much noise I can barely think.

    2. If it wasn't for Kelly I would never remember how to turn our gas fireplace on or off either. If I walked into the house and it was 99 I would just grab my toothbrush and move into the Jeep until late September.

    3. I turned every switch on the furnace and on the wall to the OFF position and hope that works. I should find out how to turn in on in the fall and off in the spring and write it down, but I know I'll never do that!

  4. Since we live in central Calif too, I know how miserable this heat is.
We will all have to suck it up and pay the larger electric bills.
Sounds like your a good sleeper, that's a blessing!
I have to get real tired before bedtime, which is often late.
I keep looking towards cooler times, maybe fall.

    1. I go to sleep quickly and easily, but have to get up every 2 or 3 hrs to go to the bathroom. (I drink lots of water during the day!) Usually I don't have any problem getting back to sleep. This weather is really awful, and I'm looking forward to cooler times in Alaska!
