Preachin'

Do you ever notice how the newly saved begin to preach the word to everyone in hopes of saving others as well?  No, I absolutely haven't gotten religion but I'm talking about the flu shot.  I haven't had a minute of discomfort due to the shot, by the way.

I have been against getting the inoculation for years and haven't come down with the flu, but I caught a glimpse of hell when I was hospitalized with pneumonia, so I decided to amend my life.

I've been reading about how this illness, which is in 47 states now and has reached epidemic proportions in many areas, and has caused quite a few deaths. Now I'm worried about my friends and loved ones.  Though the vaccine is supposedly only 63% effective it is probably a good idea to do what you can to prevent this potentially deadly disease.  I'm going to be at my daughter's house this evening and I'll probably drive her crazy, but the gods of good health are driving me just now!

  1. I'm glad you got the shot Martha. I think each of us have to take all the responsibility that we can for our own health.

  2. Your post gave me a chuckle. I remember when I first got sober over 33 years ago. For a couple years I was out 'preachin' to everybody about the evils of alcohol. Trying to save the world. I have never had a flu shot but must admit I'm thinking about it now with this flu epidemic going on. Of course my way of dealing with it is to simply stay away from everybody but of course that is totally illogical & Kelly occasionally reminds me of that. I think you did the right thing:))

  3. I had never had a flu shot before but after several bouts of pneumonia, I got mine this year too. I had the flu shot in one arm, the pneumonia in the other. The flu shot was easy breezy, but I couldn't move my arm from the pneumonia shot for 3 days. But it is so worth the protection! At least the pneumonia shot lasts several years. Yea!

  4. I'm so glad you didn't have any reaction to the vaccination. Maybe the warm up will help, there was a Dr.on the news the other night and she said the virus doesn't like heat. We have our windows open today can you believe that!

  5. So glad to hear that you are a "believer" now. I used to be the same way. It's best to do whatever you can to try to stay healthy.

  6. Having never had a flu shot, or flu, or pneumonia, I can't say much, except, I hope that you are free of it during this epidemic.

    Happy Trails, Penny.

  7. Every year when the Dr. asks about my getting a flu and pneumonia shot (I'm supposedly in a high risk group.) I smile at him and recommend he give them to someone else. If taking that vaccine makes you feel better, go for it. I'm just not interested.

  9. I have been taking the flu shot for at least 8 years. This year I didn't even feel it. My husband needs to take one and the pneumonia shot too but refuses. The best I can do is try not to bring the flu home. When I'm out I never pass up a chance to wash my hands.

I know what you mean about preaching. I quit smoking 40 years ago and still want to say something to smokers. I can usually control myself with everyone but my sister.

  10. I'm a believer in using whatever it takes to stay healthy. And after the year Jim had, I definitely don't want either of us to get sick. Glad you got the shot. I've been trying to talk my son and DIL into it but they're still in that know it all stage of the 20's.

  11. We both got our shots this fall, and Loyce got a the pneumonia shot too. She really gets it bad with a cold.. I've been getting these shots for years.. And have never had much of a reaction.. I think I have built a tolerance, and haven't had the flu much either... For us its been a good thing....

  12. I always get the shot, but my son and DIL said tonight that they and their kids don't. Not for years. That worries me - but it's their decision.
