Problems with Google

I decided to clean out the trash in my google mail, and came across a huge number of emails written in Russian (or at least in the Cyrillic alphabet). I didn't put them in the trash, so my Mac must have automatically sent them to the trash for me, and none of them had been opened. I clicked on "Report as Spam", and got a message back asking if I wanted to report the mail as spam and quit the google group. Well I have never subscribed to a single Google group, much less one in Russian, so I clicked on that option. I immediately got a return email, written in Russian, and obviously instructing me to click on a link to complete the cancellation. At least that is what it looked like to me and is the usual procedure when quitting a group or mailing list.

I am not clicking on any link that I can't even understand, so I tried to notify Google. That would be like me trying to notify the Pope that his tiara is a bit crooked - I don't imagine he is taking emails either. So how to I get Pope Google (or King Google as it may be) to hear my complaint? There doesn't seem to be any way to contact them unless you are reporting a bug.

Has anyone else been plagued with emails in another language? My only guess is that I've received emails in the past from folks whose accounts were compromised. I didn't ever have a problem myself because I normally don't click on links in mail that has no message but only a link. When I received the first couple of them, however, and trusting the sender, I did open them. That was a couple of years ago and to my knowledge I've never had my own account compromised in that manner.

Google is becoming more annoying to me every day, especially when it comes to Blogger. I read lots of blogs every day, and when a blog refers to a photo it's a 9 out of 10 chance it doesn't show up on my screen. Just the text, but no photo. I have always thought it might be a Mac problem but I now think I'm being too generous to Blogger. I have been told that Blogger is not a part of Google, but it's hard to believe since they are so much alike.

Am I the only person to have these problems?

  1. I'm not having any problems. The pictures always show up for me. Maybe Rick might have some suggestions for you.

  3. I don't have any photo problems with the Mac and haven't had any Russian spam. I do get the Viagra ones which my email program automatically moves to spam so I have no idea where these are coming to you from.

  4. I use Explorer or Chrome as my browser and my wife uses her Mac with Safari as the browser. Neither of us have any issues seeing photo's.

  5. Sometimes if I don't see the photo, I click on the area the photo would be and it will appear.

  7. I get that Gloober & Bloggle stuff mixed up too. Who's who & who's doing what to whom. No problem here for opening photos so maybe it's a simple thing in your program somewhere like maybe an unchecked box somewhere or something. If it wasn't for Kelly I would be floundering with a lot of this stuff as well. Wished I could help but I am muddled up as well these days.

  8. I think blogger is a google product and I LOVE your analogy of the pope and his tiera. Made me laugh out loud. Thanks! BUT as I've said before I have had tons of trouble with blogger and no recourse. I wish I could help with how to contact them but they obviously don't give a fig what their users think or want.

  10. Pictures always show up for me too. I think Al might be right about an unchecked box or one that should not be checked might be the culprit. Only once did I have a small problem with Blogger. Good luck.

  12. I haven't had any problems with either Google Mail or Google Blogger. It seems like maybe your computer settings need to be adjusted.

  13. Google owns Blogger lock, stock and barrel.

Your problems are strictly your computer or a MAC problem and it has nothing to do with Google or Blogger.

Mac problems are why they can never get over 10% marketshare.

  14. I have none of the problems you've listed, and all the photos show up for me. I have a problem with an old e-mail address sending messages from me, and I never used that address. It was given to me by an Internet provider, and I didn't need it, never used it. But someone hacked it. It's a pain.
