Still Alive!

I'm hanging on although just barely, at times.  I'm still in constant pain but only take Advil now and then.  Between my injury and lockdown, I can get pretty depressed at times,

The weather is too hot to even be out in the yard for a few minutes.  I've pulled  out most of the plants in my garden except for 2 of them that have a couple of small tomatoes growing.  I had such high hopes for gardening.

My cast is scheduled to come off this coming Wednesday, but I think they will give me some sort of protective sleeve for my arm.   I will be so happy to get this heavy and awkward cast off, although as casts go, it is cheerful and pretty.

I mostly feel sorry for poor Rocky except for the fact that it is all his doing.  It will be a long time, if ever, before I can even take him for a walk.  Jeannie walks him most evenings, but I don't know how long I can count on that.  Rocky and I are a sorry pair!

The afternoon sun is shining in, making every bit of dust quite obvious,  I know my house needs a complete cleaning, but I don't even care.  It's a good thing because there is nothing I can do about it.   I wouldn't mind getting an honest opinion on whether or not I should even continue blogging,

I sure hope I can find a more positive note next time.  Have a good week.

  2. I, too, want you to keep blogging. We want to know how you are doing and what you've been up to. I know it's hard when you're not able to use your arm and this stupid virus has about done all of us in. I'm hoping Jeannie can keep walking Rocky. He loves you and I know you love him.

  3. Is your cast plaster or fiberglass? I broke my leg just after Christmas. I think the first cast was plaster, then maybe 4 weeks later it was replaced with something sort of plastic. They wrapped the bandage on dry, then activated it with some kind of liquid. It was lighter and shorter. Sleeping with a big plaster cast up to your knee is not easy. After the cast came off, I wore a plastic boot for about 4 weeks. Then I started physical therapy, twice a week. I am still going to that, as I still am dependent on a walker. The PT was a goodsend, got me out of the house twice a week, and I was around positive people who gave me lots of encouragement. I look forward to being with them twice a week. I encourage you to try and get some help after the cast comes off. Hopefully you might find some place within walking distance.

As for the dust, don't worry. Get one of those sticks with a big fluffy end, like a big cat's tail; the plant. You could sweep it around things with one hand, and it is light and fluffy. It may not be perfect, but will do quite well. You may have to step outside and give it a shake every 20 minutes. You'll start feeling much better when things start to get back to normal. For me, a big step was when I could start driving again.

Congratulations on getting rid of the cast. It's a new chapter after that, so don't look back! And by all means, keep writing the blog. That's your life! Your connection with the world. And we all have to keep up with Rocky. Cheers.

  4. I enjoy your Blog too. Have been with you since before you bought your 5th wheel, fell from a camper 😩 etc. etc. etc. I would hate to be wondering how you are if you stop blogging. Hopefully you will be feeling less pain soon. It seems to be a long time since it happened. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

  5. I surely would miss your blog, Gypsy. I mean, you are like part of the family. Have to know how things are going for you. I hope Jeannie can continue to help. I hear you about the heat. Here in Texas, we are lucky if the temp goes below 80 overnight. Hopefully things will look a little brighter when you get the cast off.

  6. Don't give up the blogging "ship." Things will get better, just take one day at a time and as my Mother used to say, "this too shall pass." Take care.

  7. I know things have not been easy since your fall and this out-of-control pandemic is not helping any.

If you quit blogging I think it will cut you off more from the world. Blogging and venting can go a long way in letting out the frustrations we all experience.

I would not worry too much about the housekeeping aspect you will get to it when you feel better. In the end, only you can make the final decision that you feel more comfortable with.

  8. Your Blog was one of the first we started following. It would be a shame you would just stop. There are lots of people that follow blogs without commenting so don't ever think they aren't paying attention.
Next year will be better for the garden even if you simply plant it in Large Flower Pots.
Be Safe and Enjoy getting that cast off.

    It's about time.

  9. Good Luck on Wednesday...Yes I was there too cast off and a soft cast on it's something you should not wear all the time or your wrist will get stiff...I had to have occupational Therapy for 6 weeks after the cast came off...and then I had to do it with both arms the other cast came off 2 weeks later. Try tossing a ball in the backyard for the dog he will get his exercise!

  10. It will be difficult if I have a lot of appointments for therapy, etc. Jeannie is fortunate to be able to work at home, but all the time she spends running me around has to be made up on weekends or evenings.

  11. I think you should stop blogging about two years after you pass on to your afterlife.

    1. Now that brought me a laugh! I wonder how most readers would take that.

  12. I just don't understand why you are still in pain so long after this happened to you. That doesn't seem right to me. I hope they know what they are doing. Constant pain would depress me for sure.

    1. I have heard several people say that the pain lasts a long time, and even causes weakness and a bit of pain for years afterward. I am sure I;ll have it until the day I die,

    2. After all the opioid abuse, the medical community has gotten very strict about use of narcotics, to the point there are times where doctors can't prescribe enough to do an adequate job of pain relief. I asked for additional relief, and their answer was "you have reached your limit. You'll have to try Tylenol." That was during the first month. I have to say that after two months, I was no longer experiencing any pain. I sleep very well, but I do have to regain strength in my leg. Perhaps you can find a physical therapist who would come to you. If not, maybe via zoom. Where I go, only those who need to use special equipment come in. Others stay home and connect via the internet.

  14. Please don't stop blogging. I enjoy keeping up with you and Rocky and when you miss a few days I begin to worry about you. You will get stronger and heal and you won't be so depressed when you are able to get out and about again. Just know there are many of us out here enjoying hearing from you!
