The visit with the endocrinologist went well, in that there is nothing to be done at this time. She told me I had no doubt had the problem with the thyroid for many years and showed me test results from 2013 where the numbers spiked a bit but went back down by the next test. I will have blood tests every six months from now on rather than yearly. In the meantime she wants to find out why I'm anemic. I wish I liked red meat but I don't.
So I will have follow up visits, and probably more tests than I'd like - I'm already scheduled for a Dexa scan for bone density - but it could be much worse. I feel pretty good right now, and am still feeling the happiness, so I'm just grateful for the good things and good people in my life. I very much appreciate the support I've received from so many blog readers.
I went to the gym straight from the doctor's office, and was a bit early for Jeannie and Ara. I finished my workout and left before they did, but I did get to chat with them for a while.
I think I'll just stop here and hope I have something to write about tomorrow that isn't necessarily health related. I am tired of feeling tired, and really want to resume my former pace of life, if that is even possible.
I hope everyone has a good evening and a great tomorrow!

That's one less thing to worry about. Stay happy and positive
ReplyDeleteI plan to!
DeleteFANTASTIC NEWS! Love walking out of the doctor's office with good news. Congrats! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too; I was almost surprised, but very happy for now.
DeleteCongratulations on the news. It sounds like it is a trouble that can be worked around. Now get busy exercising those painting muscles. I miss seeing your art.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barney. I've been thinking a lot about what to paint because I'm ready to get back to it.
DeleteCongratulations! Your love for vegetables and a healthy diet have paid off. Can your doctor check out your Vitamin B levels? My mother had pernicious anemia (the Irish curse) and had to take Vitamin B shots. Perhaps they have something better these days. Just a thought, but I have been aware some people have a failure to absorb Vitamin B properly.

I checked my test results and found that B12 is on the high end of the range. The results that indicate I am anemic are difficult to figure out. Some use meaningless, to me, letters such as MCH, and MPV. I have no clue what those letters stand for. I will ask the next doctor I see about it. Thanks for the info. By the way, I have never been anemic in my life until the past few years, when I've had it twice. The endocrinologist wants to find out why, which is unusual as most doctors just want to treat it so it goes away and they don't have to deal with it.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to out why you are anemic. I'm relieved you have good levels of B12. It sounds like you have a good endocrinologist. He/she needs to get to the "root" of the problem.
ReplyDeleteI "googled" MCH and got this.

Thank you so much for looking that up. I think I will look up all those letter combinations and keep a list of what they mean so I can refer to them in the future. I wonder if they can tell why the anemia returned, after not having it for several years. I personally think it all has to do with my thyroid.
DeleteGreat news. They will figure out the anemic thing too. Wonderful to have a doctor that wants to find out why rather than just slap meds on you. It's wonderful to feel happy. I read a lot that it's an "attitude" but I'm not so sure it's that controllable.
ReplyDeleteI found that when you think of all the good things in your life that you are grateful for, the "attitude of gratitude" leads to happiness that is outside, and over and above goings on in your daily life. In other words even when things are going badly I will have so much to be grateful for, and I can make a conscious effort to translate that to happiness. I'm probably not making sense, but it sure works for me.
DeleteMany people have an iodine deficiency. The thyroid requires this. I prefer to get mine from sea veggies or seaweed and have purchased clean seaweed from this man in Maine.

The have an excellent cookbook. Kelp has the highest level of iodine. I want to get the nutrition I need from foods.

Also, cranberries fresh or juice have a huge amount of iodine considering your daily requirement. Also organic strawberries, himalayan pink salt, white potatos with skin on, white bread, boiled eggs, and several other things contain iodine. I'm going to eat a big baked potato for my dinner (with butter, salt & cheddar) and will top it with a chopped hard boiled egg!
DeleteYou make the yummiest meals!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about cranberries being high in iodine. I really like them. We have three rows of potatoes and I am just waiting for a new potato slathered in butter and our Himalayan salt. Love those tender fresh skins. We eat all we can and share the rest.
I bought a bottle of cranberry juice as well as some small boxes of dried cranberries. Also what I thought were dried prunes, which are essentially dried plums. They are so sweet and juicy and delicious I will really have to be careful of how many I eat at a time! I used to make yummy meals when my kids were young, but now I make easy and quick things for myself, in just one pot where possible. Call me lazy!
DeleteOverall, it sounds pretty good. It seems that when you visit a doctor these days there us always more tests:( I guess they have to keep busy.
