The going is still rough!

Sometimes I feel like I'm ready to explode!  I can't go on like this for the rest of the year, or whatever it takes.  And to top that off, I've been seeing articles on how the virus will keep coming back just when we think we're finished with it.

But on a more mundane note, I've decided to replace the old caulking around the bathtubs.  I can't remember when I last did anything like that, but I know it's more difficult than it looks.  I never could handle a caulking gun, so I'm going to look for the type you squeeze directly out of the tube.  It won't look worse than what is currently there.  I guess I should start on the spare bathroom and get some experience before trying the one I use every day.

After saying that I found a box of stuff that came from my old place, including two unused tubes of caulk - the only hitch is that I'll need to use the caulking gun.  I may take a "before" and
"after" photo, but I may or may not show them to anyone :-)

After walking a mile on the treadmill this morning, I took Rocky for about a 20 minute walk.  Twenty minutes for him is at a slow pace so he can sniff everything along the way, but I don't mind.  He's a good boy and he can't understand what all the current drama is about.  I'm pretty much worn out and will try to take it easy for the rest of the day.

I hope your days are more exciting than mine are!  See you again soon.

  1. Check youtube for caulking videos. You might find some suggestions on how to do it.

    1. You are right and I've seen some of them listed when looking for household repair advice. I will try to get started on it one of these days soon.

  2. I took the day off from listening to pandemic news....There was a free showing of Phantom of the Opera available on You Tube until Sunday at 7. I had never seen it...was the 25th Anniversary from Albert Hall, London. Tomorrow I will return to the reality of staying safe.
If you are not on Facebook, I would suggest you get an account. You can keep in touch with your family so easily, message instantly and apparently, live chat (haven't tried that). I think it would help with the isolation you are feeling. My sister-in-law is 82 and it is like a life line for her....she was housebound before the pandemic. Just a thought as it looks like we are in this for a while yet.

    1. I saw Phantom on stage in Washington, DC years ago when I lived in that area. I hope you enjoy it.

I was on Facebook years ago, and got into a fairly serious argument with my sister who insisted on taking it to F.B. It really got bad, and I blocked her, but finally left F.B. for good. Several years later I was convinced to join a private F.B. group with assurances my name wouldn't show up anywhere else. One evening I made a comment to a post and the next morning found 86 "Likes". No messages or words - just "likes". That did it for me, so I quit for good. It's like the Hotel California though - "you can check out any time you like but you just can't ever leave!" I can still log in and view someone's page and then check back out again.

My kids and I have a messaging group on our phones&computers, and I often use that. They got something going last weekend which included video, but I'm not interested in that. I like what I like, and have what I like, and don't need to complicate my life with anything new! I never in my life thought I would get to the point where I could say that, lol.

  3. I think you need to take a break from watching and listening to all this virus stuff. There isn't much you can do but follow along with your bask and stay away from people. You had 2 visits from your daughter. I haven't seen my kids in over a month. Missed my great granddaughters birthday yesterday. Most of us are feeling the effects of solo isolation. Yes this sucks but we need to stop worrying about what we can't fix and live the best way we can.

    Good luck caulking your tubs.

  4. You really need to limit your "news" intake or you become swallowed up in it. I turn on the news in the morning while I have coffee for about one hour and then turn it off. It is too depressing to keep listening to it. I agree with Jo that you are fortunate that your have had visits with your daughter. Haven't seen my daughter/family since Christmas. In fact she was to have flown down this past Wednesday and we were going to celebrate her birthday and attend a friend's wedding (which was cancelled). It was disappointing that she couldn't come, but it is just the way it is right now. Find a couple of tasks to do each day, take care of your garden and enjoy Rocky. Take care.

    1. I probably could cut down on the amount of time i spend online, and I'm not always looking at news. I now avoid any YouTube that features D.T. or where he is speaking, but I watch a lot of "how to's" about gardening, caulking bathtubs, animals, etc.

  5. I just finished seeing a report out of England where they asked the public to adopt a person in a nursing home and were surprised at the response they received from all over the world.

The residents were very happy to talk to people they did not know and that now have established a relationship with. I know you do not want to learn a new program such as Face Time or Skype but I see how much it is helping other people who are self-isolating at this time.

I tried caulking the tub YEARS AGO the type that does not use a caulk gun and it came out terrible wish they had had YouTube videos back then but heck the Internet had not been even invented :-D

    1. I can only say "No" to Face Time or Skype, as I have mentioned previously.

I discovered that I have a box in my laundry room that contains a caulk gun along with a lot of other household items, and also held two unopened tubes of caulk. So I will wrestle with the caulk gun after I figure out how to remove the old caulk and clean the surface.

  6. Finding things to do around home will help you make it through these trying times. The secret is to spread them out so it feels like you have more to do. Good luck with the caulking and be patient with yourself.

    1. I do things around the house here and there, but am not going to get bent out of shape because whatever I do, Rocky will try to figure a way to undo it! One thing about social isolation is that I don't worry about someone dropping in and seeing a messy house! I think I'm getting lazy.

  7. You might need to replace that old caulking. Sometimes it dries out and hardens in places, making it lumpy, depending on what it contains. Also look for some little plastic tools to spread the caulk, so that it forms a nice concave stream. Practice first.
