Walmart

I had to make another trip to the dreaded Walmart today, as I needed more of the drawer and shelf liner that I bought there last week.  I never have a good trip to Walmart, but this one was only half bad!  All the people I came into contact with were friendly, but it's irritating when I can't find what I'm looking for.  In my cleaning frenzy I threw out a bottle of rubbing alcohol and one of hydrogen peroxide, because they were years beyond their use-by dates; I've looked for replacements twice now at Walmart and don't know where they hide them.  I'll get them at Target one of these days.

I got up in a great mood today - have felt happy all day and even have joy in my heart, so I didn't let the Walmart experience bother me too much.  As I got into my car I noticed a man who probably was in his late 20's to mid-thirties, swinging a small plastic bag in one hand.  He was pretty close to my car and for some reason I knew he was going to ask for money.  He was decently dressed and didn't have that down-and-out look at all.  I drove off without even fastening my seat belt, and when I was driving up to the exit I turned and looked to see if he was still hanging around, and darned if he didn't wave at me.  The big twerp!  I just don't trust a person wandering in an aimless manner in a parking lot, never actually going anywhere, and trying to make eye contact.  That wave told me I was right on about my suspicions.  About halfway home I just laughed out loud at the scene.  (He wasn't just looking for his car, as I always park as far back in the parking lot as I can - few vehicles and I get a nice little walk to and from the store!)

I was planning to work on the kitchen drawers and cabinets this afternoon, but have wasted so much time that I need to start cooking dinner.  I've cooked chicken which I'll save half of in the freezer, including the broth, for another meal.   Chicken vegetable soup it's going to be, and I think I'll throw some rotini in for good measure.  I don't eat pasta anymore because of the high carb content, but I think a few rotini in a soup that should last me three meals won't amount to many carbs.

I almost forgot that I bought two bottles of red wine at Costco, so I think I'll open one and have a small glass, "to help me cook".

  1. The peroxide and alcohol at Walmart is in the pharmacy area usually on the bottom shelf ..Donna ..AKA grammynmaggie

    1. Both last week and today I've walked through the entire pharmacy, plus all the shelves with health & beauty products, and could never find it. If I have to go back for more shelf liner, I'll take another look. There is usually so much traffic in the pharmacy I couldn't find anyone to ask. Thanks for the info.

  3. I was going to tell you the same thing as Donna about the peroxide. To make you feel better, I wanted you to know that there are 'weed police' here at Jojoba too. I'm tired of trying to get the little buggers out of the cracks between my patio pavers. Guess I'll get an herbicide and sprayer next time I go to town.

    1. I have tried vinegar/salt, an organic product I bought at Costco which has a wonderful peppermint smell, and in desperation I bought an Ortho weed killer. None worked better than the others, and none got rid of weeds & grass permanently. My next door neighbor said he used vinegar, salt, and a tsp of dishwashing liquid - I guess it might make the solution stick to the weeds long enough to affect them. It's driving me nuts.

  4. I can just see you zooming away across the parking lot. Your little bit of wine while cooking reminds me of David who likes a beer when he's cooking. Why are you worried about the carbs in pasta?

    1. After reading about the health risks associated with a high carb or a high sugar diet (or both), I decided to cut way back on both. Pasta has about 40g of carbs per service, and I don't like it well enough to eat it often although I'm trying to use up what I have on hand. I also quit eating regular bread and those kinds of products. It was difficult at first, but now I'm fine with it. I crave white bread, croissants, danish, etc., but just avoid them.

I'd much prefer a craft beer while cooking, but I can make the wine last a lot longer. I love beer!

  5. I wonder if the peroxide and alcohol is in the antibacteral area with band aids and such.

    1. All I know is that it isn't where I thought it would logically be. I need to go to a pharmacy and ask them where it is.

  6. We have one more thing in common Gypsy...I too park as far away from the store for the same reasons.

So proud of you for staying focused on your organization efforts.

I bought a box of wine (yep, I am classy that way) a couple of weeks ago that came in handy with my sprained ankle as I could not go to the store.

Watching my Spurs with a cold beer is my ideal way of relaxing though a nice glass of wine was not bad either.

    1. For years I drank gallo white zinfandel from a box! When I moved to CA I fell in love with red zin, merlot, white Riesling, etc., and the costs here are much lower if you buy California wines. I like the white riesling the best but I always drink more of it if I have it on hand.

I'm so glad to hear of someone else like me who parks waaaay back from the front of a store. It's good exercise, you're less likely to get bumbed by another car, and you don't have to worry if you're parked slightly crooked.

Hope your ankle is doing much better. My arm seems to be getting infected where I had the run-in with the oleander bush, and I don't have anything on hand to treat it with. God forbid I should go to a doctor, who would look at my records and tell me I haven't had a colonoscopy in nearly 15 years!

  7. I always park far from the store too and try to get a spot where I don't have to back out of. I used to be able to park my car perfectly but this new car is defying me I am either too far ahead or hanging over in the back. Very annoying. Hope you find your stuff at Walmart

    1. I get out of my car and check, and almost always have to get back in and move forward. My depth perception is shot.

  8. Don't you know that wine is high in carbs?

    1. I thought all the carbs were squeezed out when they stomp the grapes. But the medicinal value of a small glass of red wine every day outweighs any carbs that are left.

  9. We have several panhandlers locally that are known to be scam artists and not really living on the streets.

    1. The older vets always tug at my heartstrings; I probably have given a donation to a few old bums on the street as well, but I feel sorry for the old bums! The younger ones can probably find some restaurant to do a small job for in exchange for a bite to eat.

  10. Of course, I always have to park far away from the entrance to any store, since I'm driving a motor home. Just more steps to add to my total for the day. :) When I can't find something in the pharmacy at Wal-Mart, I go to one of the windows and ask. They always know, and if they can they will walk me over and show me. I almost always have excellent service at Wal-Mart, with only a few exceptions. :)

    1. The Walmart near me has a very crowded Pharmacy area and there are always lines. I would have asked if I could find someone to ask. I started parking in the back of parking lots when I had my 5th wheel and Ford F350 truck. That truck always took up a lot of room, so I always tried to find a spot in the back, then realized there was an added benefit to walking a little bit further.
