Company coming!

Since I'm having a man sleep over at my house tomorrow night, I've been busy trying to clean the place up a bit.  I don't think he will notice, but his Mom or Dad might.  Grandson Liam is going to spend Saturday night at Grandma's house!

The biggest concern I have is what to feed him.  I cook for myself and it isn't necessarily what a kid might want, but I'll be ok.  There's always Chipotle and In-N-Out Burger nearby!  I kind of like Chipotle myself.

In between the jobs I've been doing, I've either been reading "the Book" or thinking of things to get rid of.  I will go back and follow the routine recommended by the author, but after I finish the entire book.  Right now I may as well discard some things I know I don't need to keep.

I have finished the chapter on clothing, and the next is books.  My main stash of books is in the spare bedroom, but sort of blocked in by camping gear.  I can picture how nice the bookshelf is going to look when I discard a lot of books I bought and never read, or those I just don't want to hang on to any more.  I am already enjoying the concept of tidying up my house and keeping only what I need and what brings me joy.  While I might never achieve the fullest results, I think I'm going to be very happy with what I accomplish.  I am really dreading getting into the photographs though.

The dog park is really getting to be a nuisance.  I was just barely awake this morning when the barking and growling began.  My doors and windows were all closed but it didn't affect the noise.  Having always had fairly quiet dogs (but who could bark when they needed or wanted to), I have no patience with what is going on.  I don't blame the dogs, but their owners could set a level of tolerance and then bring the dogs to order when it is reached.

I don't know where it came from, but all of the sudden I am craving ice cream.  I don't know if it would be better to buy a small container or just forego it altogether.  I have avoided it for several months now, so maybe the craving will pass.  I may treat myself now and then when the weather gets hot.

  1. You seem to be making progress on the clothes clean up. I did my books a while back and of course there was a conversation about some history here and I went to get the book and well... no more book. But can't keep every book I had way to many. Pictures will be hard for me too.
Have fun with your man sleep over.

    1. I already have a big garbage bag full of clothes, but I haven't yet worked on the main items which will be hard to part with.

  2. What fun to have a gentleman caller come to spend the night. These are the sorts of things grandchildren always remember. I too find the lack of consideration on the part of barking dog owners appalling. It's the same thing as "why do you think I want to listen to your music" with people at the beach. I don't want to hear your dog bark either. I really do love "tidy". Messy is depressing but I sure have a hard time keeping things the way I like them.

  3. I'm off this morning to buy strawberries at the market. I hope he likes strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast. I find that the "messy" I dislike the most and can't seem to be able to do anything about it is all the paperwork I collect. You know how it is - "I might need that so I'd better not throw it away". I'm going to be ruthless this time around. I even got boxes of those carbonless copies of checks for the past 3 or 4 years and ran them all through the shredder! It will take a lot more shredding though, to get rid of all the papers I am bogged down in.

  4. Once you have read a "who done it" or a mystery story, you therefore know the ending, so why read it again? And if you are never going to read it again, why keep it. Donate all read books.

    1. I just took a quick look at my books and noted a number of them I have never read. One is "Alaska Camping", as well as the Western & Eastern Mountain Directories. I wish I knew someone who would be able to use them, rather than just donating them to the Friends of the Library book sale.

  5. Re what DD said. The older we get the easier it is to forget what we have read!!! MAYBE I might remember how a book ended. Amaze myself sometimes how far I can get into a book or tv show before I realize that I have seen it before.

    1. I do that a lot with YouTube videos; several people post the same interview or event under a slightly different title, and then I'm halfway through it scratching my head because it sounds familiar. It doesn't take me long to figure out that I've read the book I'm starting on though.

  6. I am sure you had a great time with your grandson. I agree with Sherry, these are memories your grandson will have of you when he grows up.

I just went outside because I did not know if it was my strays or the neighbor's dog in front of mom's house that was barking. It was the neighbor's dog, he barks every night around this time and that starts ALL the other dogs barking. What gets to me is that neither her husband or her ever come out and tell him to shut up.

I too have been craving ice cream but so far have been strong. However, with the temperatures being in the 80's this week...I may cave in :)

    1. I had a great time with my grandson, and will post about it when I get a chance. He's an amazing 5 yr old!

Ice cream is the only reason I look forward to summers in Sacramento (it's so hot here). I guess I will break down and have some when the weather turns hot, but I will buy it in smaller quantities than I used to.
