The Worst!

It is still terribly hot but the forecast for the next few days looks like it will gradually cool down to the lower 100's, and then a few days later into the 90's.  Rocky wants to go out in the worst way.  I took him out for about 15 minutes and threw a tennis ball from the deck, which he loves to retrieve and bring back to me.  It didn't take long for him to get tired, but he's ready to go back out now.  I'm not!  He needs a good long walk, but not with these temps!

As usually happens when the weather stays hot and dry for a while, the ants come indoors looking for water.  They were in Rocky's water dish so today I have been offering him water but then pouring the excess out rather than let it sit.  I usually do the same with his food and he eats when he feels like it.  With the threat of an ant infestation I'm not letting anything sit out!

I never did like hot weather!  The year after I graduated from high school I went with 3 other girls to Miami Beach.  They spent their entire days on a towel on the sand, and in the hot sun.  I never did like to just lie in the sun, so I often took off by myself and explored Miami Beach.  That was back in 1959,  and I'm sure I wouldn't recognize anything in Florida today.  Usually Sacramento's terribly hot summer days are offset by the cool breeze that comes in by 6 or 7 pm.  Not this year - there is no breeze!   By the way,  the three girls I went to Florida with came back with stunning suntans, whereas I was only slightly tanned.  And I never liked oiling my skin up with suntan oils & lotions, and I'm paying for it now - ugly dry skin!  There were few or no suntan lotions in those days - only the oil and I didn't like that.

I will probably jump out of my skin when my electric bill arrives.  I try to not use the a/c unless absolutely necessary, and it certainly has been necessary lately.  I do turn it off when I go to bed and sleep under an open window.

This computer is driving me bonkers.  I just lost the last two paragraphs I wrote.   I am going to try again to use a Windows based computer, but my daughter has one for her work and says she has the same problems.  What is wrong with this picture?  If there is a computer expert out there I'd love to know.  I think my new computer will arrive in the next day or two.  I will miss the Mac, but am determined to stick with Windows this time.

I've been using a Mac for a number of years and the last two computers I've had, has exhibited this same problem.  I know I'm not the problem as I have always been an excellent typist and I rarely make a mistake.  The cost of a Mac is too high to deal with this problem which doesn't seem to have a solution.

Living alone I spend a lot of time on the computer and I really should cut down that time, but what would I do in its place?  Clean my house is one idea!

  1. Even though you didn't use oil, your skin is probably better than your friends. They laid out in the sun, got dark tans and did much more damage to their skin.

    1. My skin has been pretty good until the last year or so. Turning 80 sure changes everything!

  2. I remember back then we spent most of out summers on the NJ coast. They used to make sun tan oil with baby oil and I think iodine lol I don't remember ever having a sun burn but I sure was dark.
As for these computer problems, its all about the money they make on repairs and new computers. Even after having mine updated and cleaned out I still cannot load new photos And I'm so sad about that so I just quit taking pictures unless I use my phone it takes horrible pictures

    1. I remember the baby oil/iodine mixture! I hate having oily or greasy skin, so I have never liked to use anything. But I rarely have ever intentionally tried to tan. Speaking of taking pictures, I never did like using my phone (usually I can never find my phone to begin with). I might go back to the camera. When I go back through my old photos taken with a camera, I think the quality of the older ones is excellent. Much better than those from a phone. I plan to start using my camera again.

  3. You were lucky that your parents allowed you to drive to Florida with your friends. My father did not even allow me to go to my senior trip camping at Gardner State Park with tons of chaperones and only about 100 miles from Del Rio :-(

Wish I could help you with the computer issues but that's beyond my pay grade.

I too am worried about the next light bill it has been awfully hot here as well.

  4. As the oldest of 8 kids, I was always pretty responsible and my parents gave me pretty much freedom once I was out of high school. I was good to my younger siblings and when I wanted to go to New York but none of my friends could go, I took one of my younger brothers. Another time I took two of them to New England.

  6. Seems you sent your weather to us and we are not used to the heat. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 106 F which is unbelievable for Vancouver Island. I hope you are doing well.

  7. I am doing very well considering my injured hand, the cancer, and just overall feeling bad. But yesterday I was hit with a burst of energy and really got a lot accomplished. Today is a laid back day! I will try to post a new entry tomorrow. By the way, after a week of triple digit temperatures, I think this week will be in the 90's! That will feel like a cool spell. My garden and all my efforts are just about trashed. So far I have picked one ripe cherry tomato, and a stunted Roma tomato. Disappointing. I can only imagine what farmers must have gone through in the Dust Bowl of the 1930's. (I think it was the 30's - it was before my time, but I've read a lot about it.)
