Waiting for the AC Repairman

I've been waiting anxiously since he was scheduled to be here by 3pm this afternoon (almost an hour ago).  My landlady just stopped by to check and is going to give him another call.   She is worried about me in this heat, but I told her I grew up in Cincinnati, in hot summers with humidity on top of the heat.  I think we're going up to about 109F before the end of the day, and the excessive heat will continue for another week or two.  I'll be happy to get the a/c working again, and I'm sure Rocky will love it.  I'm just sitting quietly and not moving much!

I'll bet a dollar to a donut the a/c guy doesn't come today, and I'll no doubt have to suffer through this heat for yet another day.

I've kept the brace on my wrist for most of the day, which is extremely uncomfortable.  The pain is still constant although I don't take anything for it because of side effects.  What a helluva way to live, especially since I'm not as young as I used to be!

  1. I hope you are wrong about the repairman and he comes today. I keep thinking of you snd how hard it must be to be in that much heat. It was very hot up here too, but not nearly as bad. I can spent the hottest part of the day in our recreation room where it’s much cooler. No air conditioning here.

    1. He definitely isn;t going to show uo today. I'd be willing to bet on it. It only got up to 102 today, but tomorrow it will be around 110 or higher. I'm so disgusted with the guy and don't care if he comes or not - I can deal with the weather.

    2. The guy was here for a few minutes and said he needed to order a new breaker box, and shrugged his shoulders when I asked how long it might take. What a jerk! I'm thinking about boarding Rocky for a week because it is so hot and it will be another week to ten days before it gets down into the 90's! I'm going to have to cry soon to get rid of some of the frustration.

  2. Praying that the repairman shows up in the next few minutes.
Something is definitely wrong with that wrist. The pain should have subsided by now.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  3. I've been told that I can look for it to take up to 11 months for my wrist to heal.

    1. Not major pain. The dull ache when you over use it is normal. Not pain like you are having. Go back to doctor...at least its air conditioned there. You don't have to live like this.

  4. I thought the landlady sent over 2 window a/c's and your son installed them? If the only room staying cool enough is your bedroom then hang out in there. It's to hot to go through this your much older than when you lived in Cincinnati.

  5. If it is a breaker box, ask your landlady to call an electrician. They could fix it in a 1/2 hour, and probably have what they need on their truck. No need to wait. I could go to Home Depot and replace it in 15 minutes. It was 115 here today (Phoenix), but my a/c is only a year old and works good. 79 inside. I still urge you to schedule physical therapy for your wrist. I broke my leg the day after Christmas, and they put in two metal plates because of my age (92). I use a walker, but less and less. Tonight I walked about 15 feet across the living room unassisted, but there was furniture to graph if I needed it. I want to get rid of the walker as soon as possible. I am able to drive now, last week I drove 110 miles to get to my condo in Phoenix. Please try and be more optimistic. And look forward. I look at my accident as just a bump in the road. Phil

    1. Phil, thanks so much for your upbeat response. I'm trying my best, although the physical handicaps combined with social isolation in a pandemic are taking their toll.

I don't like to argue with my children, especially knowing they think they have my best interests at heart. And while I might ask advice, I have ALWAYS made my own decisions (right or wrong)1

  6. I have the same question as JO...what about the window units Donald installed? I do hope you turn them on.

    1. I did use every one of them and am happy to say I no longer need them. My house is wonderfully cool now, I'm glad the electrician got everything working before the intense heat we are expecting sets in.

  7. I am using the window units and fans that are all over the place. The electrician is working on it, but had to stop to buy a necessary piece of equipment (which I can't remember the name of). We nearly had a major war here last night, with my son threatening to come over to get me and take me to his house. In addition, my daughter was bugging me to go, and frankly, I may be getting old but can still make my own decisions. This morning (Tues) the electrician installed a new breaker box which was the problem, and my house is cooling beautifully.
