Jeannie and her 3 girls, AAA, (Ara, Autumn. & Arianna) picked Rocky and me up a little after Noon and drove about an hour to Hidden Falls, a regional park. Rocky was wearing his pack, and you've never seen a more excited puppy! It was a very beautiful place to hike and I understood that we were going to be doing a 3 to 4 mile hike.
We finally returned to our car (the last one in the parking lot) just before dark, and I don't mind saying I didn't think I could make it the last quarter of a mile, but I did - sheer willpower and determination! I am very proud of myself for hiking a little over 8 miles for the day. Rocky did probably 3 or 4 times as many miles as the rest of us because he kept us all in check, running back and forth! He had his pack on and was so good he didn't need the leash most of the time. I wasn't sure i'd ever be able to walk again, especially the first time I had to get up in the middle of the night! This morning I have taken it easy, while Rocky is doing what a dog does every chance they get - napping!
The trail had a lot of ups and downs, but the most trying part for me was the fact that my eyesight isn't so good and I had to be constantly looking down so that I didn't trip over a small rock or other obstruction. I wish I could hike every week or two and get myself back in shape.
We stopped to get burgers and fries on the way home, and ordered two plain burgers, no bun and no salt for Rocky - he scarfed them down so fast we thought he might have inhaled them.
On another note I'm expecting delivery of my weed trimmer today but I won't be trying it out! Since it has a special kind of battery that runs it, I'm sure I can just charge it today and hope I have the strength to try it out in a day or so.
So there you have it: 8+ miles! Gypsy's back on the trail, at least for a day!
I am scheduled for an echocardiogram tomorrow morning, so I don't want to nap today in order to be up early in the morning. I would sure love to stay in bed all day long though.
By the way, today is Rocky's first birthday. Happy birthday, Rocky!

You are amazing. I'm lucky if I can walk around our park and that is only 1/3 of a mile. Happy happy birthday Rocky.
ReplyDeleteI figured I could probably hike around 3 miles, but everything after that was sheer willpower! Rocky is sure happy to spend his birthday just resting!
DeleteHappy Birthday to gorgeous young Rocky ! That's some impressive hiking, lady, bet you surprised yourself, I am proud of both you and your sweet puppy dog.-Mary
ReplyDeleteIt certainly shocked me that I was able to complete the hike. I am really out of shape, and the last quarter of a mile was probably the worst! And Rocky did so well! Thanks for your kind comments.
DeleteWow. That is quite an accomplishment. I didn't think I was going to make it last time I did a hike half that long! And I am a few years younger than you. Having Rocky and Triple A along surely helped keep you motivated.
ReplyDeleteMy Granddaughter Autumn stayed right by me the last few miles, reaching out and holding my hand in some of the rockier spots. That's what I had real problems with was trying to not trip over a rock!
DeleteHappy Birthday Rocky 🎈🎈🎈🐾. Wow, 8 miles is very impressive. I can do a few miles, but would have to gradually work up to 8. Well done 👍
ReplyDeleteI should have worked up to it. I was thinking back to my hiking experience on the Appalachian Trail when I was 56 yrs old (1997). My longest day was somewhere around 28 miles (the last half through falling snow). Most of the time I hiked between 14 and 18 miles a day. If I had a chance to do it over again, I'd definitely decrease the mileage!
DeleteWOW that is great 8+ I thought I was the cats meow these few days doing a mile on my bike LOL. It was wonderful of your granddaughter to stay by your side she is a blessing. Happy Birthday Rocky
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gypsy and Happy Birthday Rocky!
ReplyDeleteThank you from both Rocky and me!
DeleteYou are in better shape than I am. My right knee goes out just trying to get through Wal-Mart with my wife.
ReplyDeleteI might have been in better shape before I started the hike, but now I'm definitely way behind you, Diz!
DeleteWOW Gypsy. 8 miles for someone who doesn't hike regularly is amazing. Hats off to you and to Rocky. You sound so upbeat. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry. I'm motivated to try to walk more, and even to get a fitbit!
DeleteYou did great I am proud of you both. Happy Birthday to Rocky!
