Fired up the swamp cooler

Before the temperature got to the high of 91F today, I decided to turn on the swamp cooler.  In just a couple of minutes I could feel the difference, and could lower the fan from high to low.  I keep a couple of windows open in the kitchen and bedroom, and the living room in between has a nice flow of air.  I'd take this over A/C any day, especially since there is no humidity to speak of, and just about a 4 hour window of hot weather where I even need the cooler running.  Once the sun starts to go down I can turn it off until tomorrow afternoon.

I think I'm successfully off the meds - YAY! - even though I'm not totally "off" the pain.  I can survive it all now, although gym exercise (beginning in another 3 weeks) and eating more will no doubt always be a problem.  I will be glad when I can get back to the gym even though I'm no longer going to worry about an exercise program.  My legs were looking so good and now there is just flab where the muscles used to be.   It's kind of disheartening, but I want to just try to enjoy the physical effort and toned up muscles - not worry about how much I can carry or how far I can walk.

Now if I could just get excited about what to fix for supper when I'm still full from lunch!

  1. So glad the pain is to the point where you can handle it. Now you just need to heal some more. And I'm always planning the next meal - it doesn't matter how full I am. Wish I could give you some of that.

  2. Had never heard of swamp coolers until we began traveling to the southwest years ago. Have never experienced the effects of one. We did have one in our Congress house but it was old & all seized up so we had it removed. Think I heard they don't work so well if it's humid.

  3. I'm happy to hear you're off the pain meds, they are so hard on a person. Hopefully now your appetite will come back as you get more active.

  5. It really does seem that if I let up on the exercise everything turns to flab almost over night. So unfair!

  6. With an evaporative cooler, it is important to have a couple of windows open. Years ago, my 95 year old neighbor called me as she couldn't open her front door. I went over, and couldn't open it either. So I said let's try the backdoor. When she unlocked it, it blew out into my face. It turned out she had her evap cooler on high and it built pressure up inside the house, as she had no windows open. The pressure held the front door against the jam, but the back door swung out and the pressure escaped. If you don't have a window open, you don't get any air movement from the cooler.

  7. So glad you are off the medications. You will see that in no time flat you will be back to your normal self.

Wow 91 degrees is way hotter than in West Texas where we only got to 81.

I wish I were as disciplined as you and could make myself get into some type of daily fitness program. Exercise can extend your life and I want to be around for a couple more years.

    Take care.

  8. I know it seems like forever to feel better but it isn't and you are getting there. Glad to hear your not going to worry about to much body stuff. just getting around and walking will help you get started.

    Keep working at it.
