Heavy Fog not good for driving!

I had to be downtown at 10:00 a.m. this morning and the fog was very heavy. The GPS kept trying to get me on the freeway, but I continued along Folsom Blvd which runs roughly parallel to it. I hate going to this med center because of the metered on-street parking, combined with some very compliance-minded meter personnel. But I got my EKG and since I would have to wait for a while at the lab for the potassium test, I got a list of their neighborhood clinics. I went to one not far from home, and was in and out in about 10 minutes total. I love it when that happens.

I am getting edgy and distracted, and it will probably get worse during the next 3 weeks. I will be more relaxed when I figure out how I'm going to get to the surgery center by 8:30 in the morning; who will pick me up; and who will take me back the next day for the 1st post-op check. Everyone I know is either working by that time, or has children & babies, and I don't intend to cause such an inconvenience with the kids. None of them like being strapped in those horrible carriers anyway, and I don't need to hear the yelling before undergoing surgery. For 2 cents I would drive myself there, but then someone would have to pick me up after the surgery, and then come back to pick up my truck.

I have always hated to impose on anyone and would do anything to not have to ask someone to go out of their way. I also don't like to ride or drive on the horrible Cap City freeway, and since the surgery center is right off it, most people would go out of their way to take a freeway rather than stop for a couple of traffic lights on the city streets - it's a straight shot over the streets. I really fear for my life when on that particular freeway - just what I need before undergoing surgery.

I'll get it all worked out in the end, but right now it's causing me a lot of stress. I would almost prefer to increase my alcohol consumption to try to avoid worrying, but find myself not even wanting to drink - maybe one beer in the evening. If you wonder how I can make a 12 oz beer last all evening, I will say that I take very small sips. I figured out that the sips approximately correspond to the draws I would love to be taking on a few cigarettes! You'd be surprised how many drags are in a bottle of beer. It works for me, although I still crave smokes from the time I get up in the morning, but of course I don't drink beer then, just coffee. :}

I am having printer troubles again, with both printers, and boxed up the one I've been using to take back to Staples tomorrow. Now I just have to find the receipt. I tried everything I could think of including complete re-installation, but nothing works. All I get is that red flashing error light. Running it through the basic system check it seems that I have plenty of toner, and if I didn't the toner light would start glowing. I'm fed up with it and wish I could get by without one. For the most part I can, and do, but there are those odd times when you really need to print something. They just don't make them like they used to, and I will always believe that the more functions, buttons, lights, little screens etc., that they add to the machine, just makes it more likely that something will go wrong. I know most people don't agree and like all the bells and whistles, but I don't!

  1. Maybe you could take a taxi both ways. I'm sure someone at the clinic would take you to the taxi after the operation. At home you would probably be OK on your own. Hope you get it all sorted out.

  2. I'm with Vera! Using a taxi both days certainly won't break the bank will it? Or what about one of those senior citizen little buses that pick you up and take you to an appointment? They're likely to be more reasonable if you give them enough notice. Just saying...

  3. Its unanimous! Taxi or senior bus is the most logical and least worrisome thing to use on your surgery days. Senior bus is way cheaper than regular taxi so why not check them out first?

  4. Yep. Taxi or senior bus. (Ride-a-long bus, I think they're called.)

  5. Do they have volunteers in your area that would do something like that? Most operations require someone to actually be there to pick you up and then be sure you get home ok so I'm not sure a taxi would work.

Are there any RVers in the area that would help out?

  6. My insurance company has a Transportation Benefit, where I can have 30 trips per year to an approved location such as doctor appointments or hospitals. They have special drivers to do this. Kind of like what Bayfield Al does when he is home in Canada.
Have you checked with your insurance company?

Or as others have said, you could take the truck, and then a cab home, and pick up the truck the next day when you go for your Post-Op. The local Senior Center has those services too, as Judy said.

I hope you get it all sorted out, so that you won't be so stressed about it.

As for your printer, sometimes the ink is dry, and so it won't do right, have you tried this

"When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged inside with dried ink.
The printer head cleaner menu will NOT dissolve the dried ink inside of the nozzles. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel. Also wipe the electrical contacts on the back of the ink cart. Retry."

I hope it all works out for you, Happy Trails, Penny, TX

  7. Well I have to put my 2 cents in. Taxi is the way to go. I like the idea of contacting the Senior Center. Another place to check out is the Catholic Social Services. The senior citizen buses usually require you to fill out an application and then you have to be approved for their services. Once you are in their system though they are a great alternative. I really like the taxi idea though.

  9. My vote goes for the Taxi. Seems the most logical. Printers are not my favorite thing because of all the electronic computer stuff it has been the printers we have had the most trouble with. Beer & cigarettes?? Aw yes, my old lifestyle & one which I would sooner be deceased than to ever go back to that way of life!! Fortunately for me, the urge for drinking & smoking left a very long time ago.......

  10. It probably won't help you now, but I always try to buy the printer that is the same as my computer. I have pretty much stuck with HP all the way. I have had other kinds of computers, and bought the same kind of printer to go with them. I am like you, don't care for all the bells and whistles, but it is hard to find one without them. Sometimes I think it is the software and not the actual printer. Good luck, your odds of finding a good one are getting smaller... :)
