Eye surgery Ahead for Me

I am so glad I took my opthamologist's advice and saw a retinal specialist.  I had an 8:30 am appointment and it's a good thing I always leave early enough so that I have time to get lost and find my way again!   The building was very difficult to find, way in the back of a parking lot with lots of separate buildings and I drove past it, requiring me to turn around on a divided street, in rush hour traffic.

I was there about three hours, had yellow dye injected into my veins that would spread throughout my system, including to the veins in my eye.  Nothing was difficult except all the waiting between things happening, and moving from one room to another several times.   I really like the doctor that I was referred to, as well as all the people who I had contact with throughout the visit.  I wore jeans and a tee shirt, and one of the young guys who injected the dye asked me if I worked out, and commented on my arms!  That was pretty unexpected, and I'll have to admit I enjoyed someone noticing.  I am not really muscular although I will have to say the exercises I do produce results!  Now I have to wait to hear from someone in the office who will schedule my surgery, probably around the latter part of July.

The doctor told me that my eyesight in the left eye should improve somewhat, but not an extraordinary amount, and that is something I can accept.   At my age and stage of life I'm just glad they can do something to make things better for me!

Surprisingly I don't feel much anxiety about it, although that might come later.   I've been so tired this afternoon but that is probably due to getting up so early this morning!  The weather is getting warmer which doesn't help.

Enjoy the weekend.  I'm sure going to try!

  1. I always appreciate it when the doctors don't promise me the moon when we are discussing my health. I think it is great that you maybe able to hang on to your vision a little while longer.

    1. I want to know what to expect and for them to give me the info I need to make my own choice.

  2. Anything that can be done to improve our vision even a little bit is worth it. And it sounds like you have a great team to work with.

  3. I have really been happy with both the opthamologist, and now the retinal specialist. Good doctors are out there but sometimes they are hard to find.

    1. In my case with eye doctors, the first one was my Mom's doctor and right in the neighborhood. He did my cataract surgery, but when he determined I needed a cornea transplant he referred me to my current opthamologist. He's been excellent, but when I needed a retinal specialist, he referred me to the one I just saw and who will do my upcoming eye surgery. I think a good doctor can give the best referrals, but finding the good one to begin with is the key.

  4. Finding the right doctor can be difficult at times. I absolutely dislike mother's retinal specialist but both her Del Rio as well as her San Antonio opthamologist swear by her.

I suppose she is good at her craft but she has some weird mannerisms.

    1. That is what I think of my primary care doctor and I need to make a change.

  5. I agree that even a bit of improvement is worth the surgery. I'm delighted you like the new doctor and his staff. I want a doctor who is spot on with his knowledge and abilities, but it's sure nice if he also has a good "bedside manner" and friendly staff.

Kudos to you for being so upbeat about this. Optimism is half the battle with most things, I think. :)

    1. That's exactly what I think - I know it won't be a permanent cure or improvement, but I'll be grateful for a little better vision for a little bit longer. If this doctor is even half as good as my opthamologist who recommended him, I'll be fortunate.
