Dropping Easter Plans

Jeannie, Steve, and I were plannng on our families getting together at my house for Easter.  On second and third thoughts, we decided it's too soon to do that.  Each of us has stayed in isolation with our families (for me that is my dog, Rocky), for three weeks.  That's just about enough time to say that we are all safe, but we decided it's still too early to take chances.  So we will plan a blow-out get-together for a later time.  It makes sense to me - I've spent 3 agonizing weeks alone up to now and don't want to go back to zero and take a chance.

I took a letter out to my mailbox a bit earlier, and wore a mask!  I looked and felt pretty dorky, and hoped no one saw me.  Wouldn't you know a car pulled up across the street, and the occupants just sat in it.  I left to come back to my house, although Rocky wanted to investigate!  Now I'll have to put that mask back on when I check on the mail delivery in a couple of hours.

This has been a dreary sort of day - some sun, but mostly overcast.  I should go out and pull some more weeds & grass from the next plot I want to finish and plant more veggies in.

I'm faithfully walking on my treadmill - a mile and a third each day for 6 days.  Rocky is so curious but won't step up on it.  I'll increase the walk by 1/3 a mile each week for at least the next 2 weeks.  Don't know where I'll go from there.

So that's it from me today - stay safe and well.

  1. I kind of like the whole mask thing. It helps cover my double chin. Now I just need something to cover my hair with. I'm trying to get up to 2/3 of a mile (twice around the park). Somedays are harder than others.

    1. I feel so silly wearing a mask, but I guess looks aren't the primary concern. Good for you, for walking. They say it's the best exercise.

  2. Don't feel silly wearing a mask, it is the sensible thing to do right now. I have now made 29 masks which are being given to family and friends.

    1. The one I'm wearing is the kind you use when painting or sanding - to keep fumes and dust out of your airways. There was nothing else available when I bought them. I understand I could wear a scarf or similar.

    2. Good for you, by the way, for making masks for family and friends. That is so thoughtful.

  3. The Specialists are not really sure how long this pandemic will hang around. Staying Isolated is the best thing you can do to protect yourselves.
Be Safe and Enjoy your family.

    It's about time.

    1. I know I'm not going to rush it. I'm about to go crazy with being alone, but it's worth living a bit longer!

  4. I wore a mask today too. ...a couple other folks in the store had them on as well. I am extremely careful when out. Carry disinfectant wipes with me & the grocery store supplies disposable gloves as you enter.....We might try "FaceTime" with my daughter during Easter Dinner since she can't be here.

    1. I get sort of lazy and don't worry much because I'm so alone. I need to be more aware and cautious.

  5. I made a couple masks with a no sew bandana and hair ties but you can use the tops of old stockings or socks by cutting the tops off and wrapping them around your ears. Your making this so much worse for yourself. I had to go shopping yesterday and wore my mask and rubber gloves. I have always carried hand sanitizer with me anyway. You can google no sew masks make a good heavy one and take the dog for a walk.

    1. I'm not planning to go any further than the mailbox until this pandemic abates in my city. Dogs and other animals can catch the virus as well - look at that poor tiger in the Bronx Zoo. So Rocky and I are going to be safe rather than sorry.

  6. I am sorry you had to postpone your plans but in these trying times, it is the best decision you could come to. There will be a time in the not so distant future when you will finally be able to get together...you will be doubly grateful for your sacrifice.

    1. I guess so, but the longer I live, the less time I have, and I sure hate to spend it in isolation!

  7. Due to sand storms here in Arizona, I had bought stretchable neck scarf/mask...the kind that motorcyclist wear over their mouths when riding. So, I just double layer two, pull it over my head around my neck...looks like a snug scarf...and pull the cloth up to make a mask. It works and it's fashionable too. I also have snorkel googles and put that over my glasses and that also works. I heard ugly people out there have been spitting, coughing on grocery shelves, people, and even into carts and vehicles. What drives them to do this is beyond me...ugly people. Hence the snorkel googles in case someone decides to spit...I'm protected. I carry extra scarf/mask for such an occasion. I bought the neck scraves/mask at a hardware store in the sports section. They work wonderful and inexpensive. So, I have a drawer full to use while hiking, on cold days, or as I said on windy, dusty days.

    1. You are so resourceful, and have looked at protecting yourself from all possibilities.

I used to love hiking more than almost anything else, but those days are over for me. I think fondly of time spent on the trails in the Smoky Mountains though. Take care, and the best of luck to you.

  8. Wise decision on your part. I hope they don't open things up too early and we all have to start over with the lock down. How is Rocky doing with only the backyard for his exercise?? I'm with you on tired of being alone. This is very difficult for me. I feel like you do about running out of time especially without David.
