Keeping Cool

Right now at 4:30 in the afternoon, it is 101F.  It is pretty stifling as I found out when I went out to get the mail.  Rocky was happy to come back inside and take a nap on the couch!    I've been watering my garden as soon as I get up in the mornings, and then take Rocky for a walk - then I eat breakfast and try to stay indoors for most of the day.

I think I mentioned I bought a TV set, even though I've never been a tv watcher.  I think I'm just so bored from staying in isolation that I am buying things I don't need.  The TV wasn't all - then I needed a nice stand to put it on.  Jeannie, Donald and the girls came by last night and Donald put together the stand that I bought for the TV to sit on!  Right now it is in front of the fireplace which will be ok until the fall turns cool and I want to have a cozy fire.

Click on the photo to enlarge it a bit.

I don't know if you can see this very well because everything is black - black stones in the fireplace, black tv, and black stand.  I see my image is reflected in the tv screen!  I don't know yet what to put on the shelves of the TV stand  - it will have to be things that Rocky isn't interested in.

This weather sure saps my energy but there isn't anything I really have to get done until later in the week when the temps will come down quite a bit.

Take care, and stay cool if you are in a hot zone as Sacramento is right now.  And this is still May, so what will summer be like?

    1. I have never been a TV watcher, and probably won't change at this stage in my life.

The thing I don't like about SpaceX is that I can't stand Elon Musk!

  2. It was around 80F here on Vancouver Island a very nice day. I hope your weather will be more to your liking soon. TV can be company on these lonely days. Maybe you can find some good programs.

  3. I had mentioned on another post that I did not realize you had bought a television set. Good for you! You can watch your local news channels we in Del Rio have none so we have to pay for cable or have a blank TV.

We have something in common today...both of our cities hit a high of 101 degrees. We are having terrible storms in Texas this evening...they even pre-empted my soaps...awful winds and hail in the San Antonio area!

I do hope you will learn to like your TV.

    1. I forget what kind of TV I have, but it gets internet programs that you don't have to pay for, I think I mentioned I get past episodes of Ancient Aliens which is one show I watched fairly often when I had TV. I don't watch network news but there are a lot of independent news sources as well as internet news. I still prefer the computer but I may adapt in the coming weeks and months.

  4. Nice TV stand. Sometimes I turn mine on just for the voices. I don't watch to much I like some things on PBS but they keep showing the same things over and over. When they have the animal shows I will watch those and dabl is a station that has a show all about people looking for propeties in the UK which mostly is Ireland, Scottland and walls so beautiful.

We hit 103 today and I had a grocery delivery and it didn't show up until 10so next order I will do 8-9 am slot.

    1. It really is a nice stand, better than I had expected. I like the animal shows also, and I might start watching more as the days go by. It sure is to hot to do anything else!

  6. From what I see, looks like you have a Vizio TV. Years ago my grandson counseled me that I would like that company. He was right. I bought one then, and have since bought two more. It is a "smart tv". The Vizio remote takes you to the internet. With the first tv, I encountered some problems. Just things I didn't understand. Their customer service was outstanding. I mean, the people spoke English at home, obviously! I think you are going to like it.

    1. By the way, I checked it out first and I think Vizio is made in the USA. It is really difficult to find where most things are made these days - no doubt the companies don't want to admit that nearly everything we buy is made in China. I like the fact that this tv gets a lot more than the standard television, including internet. I watched an hour of Ancient Aliens last night - I love that program.

    2. RunNRose is correct my first Smart TV was a Vizio and I did a lot of research before I bought it and have not ever regretted purchasing it. I have since purchased two more including one for my uncle and he loves it as well.

While I did not know it was made in the USA...that is certainly a plus. With all we have been going through with this pandemic I think WE (us Americans) should consider making and purchasing more things that are made in our own country.

    3. I am definitely trying to buy American, although that sometimes mean not buying something because it's made in China and I can't find it anywhere else. It takes some digging to find out the origins of what we consider buying, but if we don't do it we are just supporting a regime that is in complete opposition to the principles our country was founded on. By the way, quite a few American companies moved to China and operate in that country - they have nothing to do with th USA except to push their products. Don't be fooled.
