I'm posting this from the parking lot of the library because my aircard seems to be out of commission. I think the antenna broke off the delicate little prong that it connects to. This is ludicrous - after all, we are talking about a mobile device, not one that sits unobstructed on a desk and not subject to being jostled around. If I replace the air card I will no doubt have to pay full price for it. The only other option, and the one I might prefer, is to opt out of the contract altogether but pay a penalty for early termination. Meanwhile, I'm not going to be able to get online very often.
A volunteer couple and I toured the squares downtown and saw many fascinating and lovely houses, monuments, churches, etc. I took lots of pictures but they will be posted later. The weather was drizzly for most of the time, but traffic wasn't too bad and I really enjoyed the trip.
So, I will be back when I can.

The way I see it you have 4 options.
ReplyDelete1 Replace your broken equipment & keep on trucking.
2 Go to a satellite system that will be very expensive & will test your physical powers & technical prowess to the limit
3 Only stay in RV Parks that have Wifi....sometimes good, sometimes not so good
4 Sharpen your pencil
I hope you opt for number 1 because you have people out here who care about you & want to know how your doing.......daily.
Your call:))
I wouldn't give up on the air card without a phone call or two. Your card may have a limited warrenty still in effect. Or the company may have some other idea for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can work something out as I enjoy hearing about your adventures.
How can we live without you!? I hope you get it resolved with the company. Good luck we'll be waiting.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be out here in Blogland waiting for the pics! Hope all goes well with getting your connection online ASAP.
ReplyDeleteOHhh I am so sorry Gypsy! The exact same thing happened to me, if you recall I said in chat.
ReplyDeleteI went round and round with AT&T and also Sierra who makes the card. By using the antenna port you are voiding the warranty... so AT&T says NOPE not covered... but I am under 2 year contract and have to keep paying monthly for something I am not using?
Then Sierra said oh that is just too bad, but send it to us and after 4-6 weeks we can determine if it was faulty or not, but first you must pay a fee for us to diagnose it... argghhh!
So I had to buy a brand new Mercury card again from AT&T... it was over $260 online and after finding it on sale at a local AT&T store I think i ended up paying $189 ?
The bugger of it all is this: WHY do they even put an antenna port on it if you are not allowed to USE an antenna??? And second, that tiny inner brass thing looked like it was superglued into place. Some design flaw as far as I consider it. So I tore mine wide open to see, and sure enough, its only a dab of glue and its has three or four tiny prongs that touch a box inside of there. Of course once the little brass thing let loose, all those prongs are broke off too. Its irrepairable Chinese Junk!
(sorry this was so long)
I agree with the Bayfield Bunch. Bite the bullet and replace the broken card. Otherwise, I think you'll miss us as much as we'll miss you!
ReplyDeleteSame thing just happened to my aircard. They certainly do not make them well. I don't carry insurance on mine and my two years was up so I upgraded but had to pay the price. I just can't live without it.
ReplyDeleteI need my Gypsy fix every day ! I've been following you every step of the way from selling house,to cataract surgery & the bacon grease incident - have so enjoyed every post - hope you get aircard problems fixed soon !! Cindy L
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to our air card and I was, somehow, able to convince the warranty people that it was not my fault that their antenna connection had failed. I was carrying the insurance on the card so I don't know if that helped or not. At least call and raise cain about the quality of their equipment! I did that, and threatened to change carriers. :)
ReplyDeleteWe'll miss you if you can't post!
