The Cure?

I haven't been feeling well at all lately.  Nothing extreme, but I'm just lagging.  I've decided to maybe post once or twice a week if I have something worthwhile to say, maybe more often if there is a reason to do it.  I'm just tired and don't know why.

I saw one of PBS's doctor shows they put on just about every week to raise money.  I started watching this one last night - this doctor believes in treating illness with good nutrition rather than medicines, where possible.  He gave a list of things he considers important for daily consumption to maintain good health.  One is to drink a glass of red wine daily; another is to eat dark chocolate daily.  I got so excited about those two I didn't pay enough attention to the rest of the list.

I went to Costco today and bought 3 bottles of red wine and a big bag of dark chocolates, and have started on my new health regimen.  I'll let you know how it goes!

  2. I agree with the doctor that good nutrition goes a long way!
Would like if mine said so instead of trying to prescribe more pills.
Fact is that death from overuse of prescription medication comes on third after cardiovascular disease and cancer. Makes me think.

  3. Hmm... Does this mean that if the wine and chocolate works, you'll be posting six times a day?? ;)

  4. Sure hope you start feeling better. Maybe throw some liver in with that wine and chocolate to boost your iron levels?

  6. Some animal protein tossed in might help. Your trips to the farmers market net you really good foods, but you may not be getting enough protein, and with so little reserves, your energy level may be very low under the best of circumstances.

There are other sources of protein, of course, but a lean hamburger might pep you up some. Do you have something high in protein that is already in your freezer that you could defrost and cook without having to expend the energy to go to the grocery store?

I can't remember if you like beans or legumes, but if you have a can of them around, maybe that would help to get you on your feet. Maybe a can of split pea soup?

Best wishes for getting back to the fun life!

  7. Both red wine and dark chocolate appear to do good things for us. But I think a good well rounded diet that includes lots of fresh fruit, veggies, chicken and fish does it for me.

Also, I learned from my blood tests last year that my Thyroid was low and I wasn't getting enough Vitaman D, so I now take a low-dose thyroid pill every day, and a Vit D, too. Could you be low in something like that?

I hope you're up to snuff soon. :)

  9. Uh,oh! Better fun out to the store. We do Sam's instead of Costco. For sure there's gonna be a run on red wine and dark chocolate, once the word gets out to all us old folks. Don't wanta be late!
Seriously, I do hope you get perky again real quick.

  10. I listen to this great podcast called Herbal Highways out of Berkley, CA, WKRP I believe. They have a lot of good information about herbs (which have no side effects) and actually contain lots of vitamins and minerals. Some call them the "meat of the plant world." You might be low on iodine, many women are. Get some iodine tincture from your pharmacy and put a dab on once in awhile. It's bound to help your iodine levels.

  11. You made me laugh. Sounds like a plan - except I don't like wine [or alcohol for that matter] but our 101 year old Grandmother swears by having a glass on occasion. I side with her too, because she can still whup our behinds in most anything. And yes, that does say 101!

Now the dark chocolate? I can do THAT all day long. Especially if I put it in the Chocolate Lava Cake. YUM.

Who is this doctor and what time is he on PBS, your time? I must watch him. heehee

Enjoy yourself. Wish I was there. Hugs, Skip

  14. Stick with the bottles of wine. I bought a box to save $ and can't see how much I have drunk, can't seem to keep track of the # of 4 oz glasses I have had either!

Thought wine would be better than vodka, but maybe not. LG

  16. You know I read a story about a man wanting to loose wt and went on a junk food diet and he lost! He ate candy bars, chips, etc. He just counted calories. Really makes you wonder. I sure hope this works and you feel better, your sense of humor is in check!
