Temporary Move- 2nd post Wed., 1/12

I'm packed up to leave and will be staying at Jeannie's for a couple of days at least. They have brought in a huge blower motor that needs to run for 48 hours, or MORE, to dry out the moisture inside the walls. It was much worse than they thought, and is because of a damaged waste pipe - all the waste from upstairs was seeping down and some ran into my bathroom. Yuk!!!

When it has dried sufficiently they will bring in teams from companies that will clean and sanitize the entire wall cavity, as well as my entire bathroom. One of the companies does cleaning up after fire, water damage, etc., and has lots of experience. We had such a company after our house was damaged by fire and water back in the 1980's, and I know they do a good and thorough job. They are going to test for residual mold as well, and will determine the severity of the problem. The fix will have to meet health standards. I won't be able to sleep with the noise of the blower, so they offered to pay my motel if I wanted to stay at one - I would prefer to stay at Jeannie's and the dog will be much more comfortable out in their backyard. (An added plus in Donald's cooking, plus being with my darling granddaughters.)

The management will also pay for the electricity to run this giant blower!

I hate to think of living out of a suitcase for a few days, but there isn't much choice. I should have know that the happy and joyous energy around the time of my birthday in November would only go downhill! I sure hope it is bottoming out now.

  1. Do you think the mold has something to do with how you've been feeling? Glad they're getting it looked after.

  3. I never know what to expect when I read your posts. They certainly aren't ever dull. I'm glad you're out of there until they get that mold problem taken care of. That's nasty stuff.

  4. "I should have know that the happy and joyous energy around the time of my birthday in November would only go downhill!" Come on, Gypsy, take a little more positive outlook here. You're spending time with your family on someone else's dime! Make lemonade out of lemans! :)

  5. Sandra is right: Exposure to mold can do strange things to one's health. That stuff is a problem! Even after you have had your walls cleaned, there may be some pockets of it hiding away. Talk to some mold specialists.

  6. Well, sometimes they say that a change is as good as a rest. Look at that stay in a Motel for a couple days as a camping adventure....with the usual challenges:))

  7. I am sure glad you are finally out of that house. Maybe now you will start to feel better. Hopefully, it hasn't taken hold in your body.

  8. Better living out of a suitcase than out of a hospital room. I think you are doing the right thing.

  9. You ahead of the game to be out of that place. Sounds like they should have been on top of this problem a long time ago.

    Enjpy your stay with family!

  10. Gosh, Gypsy, if it isn't one thing it's another! I'm so sorry about your leak. I'm having the same thing, but mine is coming from outside and up through the concrete. I had one of those blowers, too, and slept in my guestroom on the floor in a sleeping bag. With lots of comforters and blankets between me and the floor. (The floor is harder than when I was younger.) Definitely too loud to have on while sleeping.

I would worry about the waste coming from upstairs - I'm glad the owner/manager is having a licensed company doing the repair work and not just hiring a handiman (like my HOA did at first).

Good luck with this latest challenge - enjoy your family!

  12. OH I am soooo relieved you are OUT of there!

Perhaps if google some mold information on health, you might wish to make a claim with the management and get out of your lease and have them hire a moving company to get you out and into a new place? Perhaps they have another vacant unit?

  14. I agree with Karen, I wish you would get out of that apartment, Gyspy.
That must have been what made you feel bad.

    Happy Visiting, Penny, TX
